It appears that the Padres are content with skipping Mat's starts to give him rest.

Do you think that having him skip starts is best?

Would you send him to Portland to throw short starts and stay fresh?

would you move him to the pen?

So many ways to go with this topic.

I've been thinking about this. The first thing I would have done the Padres have already done. Move him to the back of the rotation.

The other thing I would do - and I don't know if this is really feasible - would be to skip his turn in the rotation every other start and instead start Stauffer. Sort of a 5 1/2 man rotation. So he would start, at most, every ten days.

Stauffer & Latos would be sharing the 5th starter & long reliever roles.

Like I said, not really sure how feasible that scenario is. But if anyone else has a better idea...

I think Stauffer will start in place of Latos and possibly Leblanc a few times down the stretch. I'd rather see him throw some bullpens to stay fresh than waste innings in Portland. I also wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Luebke or Carillo brought up to get a couple starts if they have room on the roster. Stauffer is doing so well in his current role that I don't want it changed if they don't have to.
