I am having a hard time thinking this guy is just another role player that had a good first half. My interest is not raised because he is a local guy, so why would he be more than an upgraded Jerry Hairston??

I had an Idea I had brought up earlier today posed via (twitter @mickeykoke) about not only Ty Wigginton, but other O's that have been linked to as possible acquisitions for the Padres, both short and long term.

Ok Padres send Sampson, Decker & Venable to the O's for Adam Jones, Ty Wiggington and Jeremy Guthrie ITS HOT Jus sayin.. would U do it?

You could have just acquired a legit CF and brought in Wiggie to help produce at third against lefties and spell chase with needed rest. Wiggie can also spot start in LF, 1st base and could spell the aging Eck at 2nd. It would also allow Cunningham to start everyday. Guthrie would help the younger pitchers in Latos, Webb, Gregerson, adams, LeBlanc and even Stauffer. Guthrie also has stated that he would love to pitch here and could prob be easy to re sign. EXACTLY what the Padres want. Also, we do not exactly have a legit threat in CF Offensively UNLESS they (the Padres) are satisfied with TGJ defense and bank on his offense to improve.. I am not so convinced.

while we would be giving up talent in Sampson, he's still young, Decker may profile better someher else than Petco. while Jed Hoyer's philosophy of "playing Petco Park into an advantage", might not help Decker EVEN though he is VERY athletic for what has been classified as a "bad body type". Venable could help them (The O's) impact immediately (might profile much better with the short porch in Baltimore) without Jones and we would still have Cunningham stepping in.

In that scenario we would be much more deep on the bench and have much more power on the team while not giving up our top closest prospects like Castro etc. Righties (Wigginton/Jones both righties with pop) also do not have as much trouble with the long ball at Petco as lefties. There could be a plethora of scenarios of the lineup. If Wiggie was in for Eck or Headley he could bat 5 Jones could bat 1, 3 or 5. The Padres have been linked to both Guthrie and Wiggie. The O's have also been scouting the Padres which does NOT necessarily mean anything BUT there has been inquiries on Sampson.. jus sayin..
