Outfield Dilemma 1 Year, 9 Months ago

For brevity, our outfield blows and Buddy is compelled to keep starting these guys. Why wont he give Cunningham, Dino, and Durango a shot? Other than the three players I've mentioned all out outfielders are hitting int he .235 range. People wonder why no one takes the Padres seriously? That says it all, what a joke. Give these other guys a shot to see what they can do because I'm sick of seeing these 0-4 and 0-5's from Gwynn, Hairston, and Veneble. If Blanks hadn't gotten hurt I bet Buddy would still be sending him out there batting .150, incredibly frustrating.

I agree; although, Deno has played almost everyday lately. I don't see why Cunningham isn't playing every day. He's playing as well as any of our outfielders and he's not getting any starts. Hairston and Gwynn need less playing time. Venable was playing well before the injury and he just came off the DL. I don't mind seeing him in the lineup, but I would like to see a lot more of Cunningham. Unfortunately Black doesn't see to feel the same way. Cunningham may head to Portland when Tejada, Eck, and Adams join the team.

I'm not saying Cunningham is a godsend or anything, but with the crap offense the current outfield is putting out why not give Cunningham a chance?

I'm with you. It seems like the entire OF is a platoon.
I really would like the see the team go back to platooning CF now that we picked up Ludwick.
Although I have a feeling we will continue to see Bud play roulette with the line up

I agree with the platooning needing to stop, id love to see consistency, BUT something thats made this team so great is that bud believes in all of his players, and they all believe in themselves because he places confidence in them in every situation.

Sorry padresfan4life, I wish it were that simple. Buddy Black has believed in his players, but that isn't what makes this team great. Maybe on the pitching side because a lot of pitching has to do with confidence, but not on the hitting side. Buddy's "believed" Scotty, Gwynn Jr., and Venable into being .220-.230 hitters. It was finally revealed today that Dino had a groin problem and that was why he hadn't been starting, so hopefully he starts Dino and Ludwick, and only plays roulette with that last outfield position. Of the three I think Hairston's the best bat (at this point) but he's usually okay defensively except when he makes idiot plays like the one the other night. Then later in the game Tony can take over as a defensive replacement.
