Ideal Lineup? (Assuming a healthy lineup) 1 Year, 9 Months ago

I was wondering who agreed/disagreed and what the thoughts were on a line up like:
1. Jhair-SS
2. Eck- 2B
3. Gonzo-where else
4. Ludwick-RF
5. Tejada-3B
6. Yorvit/Hundley-C
7. Headley-LF
8. Scotty-CF
Also why did we demote cunningham over removing the real dead weight?

There is a couple different scenarios I like. How about?
Eckstein
Tejada
Gonzo
Ludwick
Headley
Torrealba
Deno
Venable
I would switch Deno with the catchers spot if Hundley started. It really depends on who's in the lineup. I don't want to see S. Hairston in the lineup unless it's against a LHP.

This one is right up my alley. Here's how I'd go and why.
1.JHJ SS: He is the only Pad to suceed at leadoff in 2010
2.Eck 2B: He is the heart and soul of this lineup.
3.AGon 1B: Needs to hit in the first no matter what
4.Ludwick RF: Has power potential so AG avoids IBB's
5.Miggy 3B: This man knows how to bring runners home.
6.Yorvit C: Yorvit has passed Hundley as a hitter.
7.Headley LF: Chase needs to stay in lineup somewhere.
8.Gwynn CF: Patrols CF like no other in Petco.
9.Pitcher's spot
Now alot of people think that the platooning at every position but 1B and 3B has hurt the team but I disagree. With Tejada's addition you will see a 3B platoon also.
I believe the platooning makes us all the more dangerous. We have different guys coming in and contributing every night. Everyone picks up one another so it creates a clubhouse chemistry like no other I've seen in the majors. We can also change people out freely in-game for double switch opportunities anywhere in the lineup.
That alone allows everyone from JHJ to Denorfia to contribute to the team. Venable can start or come in as a LH PH. Or Gwynn can start at Petco or come in as a PR or defensive replacement. Most important is it allows guys to stay fresh and rested. And our catching corps is fantastic. I really believe with the addition of our run producers to a team that has been in the run prevention game will put us over the top with a chance at the series.
Seriously this year has a real golden feeling to it.

I liked the LU Bud put out Monday, but I still see everyone on this team with the exception of AG platooning.
I fully expect with Eck comes back that they will rotate Eck, JHJ and Tejada. I think Headley out in LF will be short lived if it happens, remember this team is winning with defense.
Vs. RHP
Eck/JHJ

Ludwick
Headley
Catchers
Venable
TGJ
Pitchers Spot
vs. LHP

As was said, the lineup Bud put out monday was favorable, it seemed to get Tejada's streak that is coming started, right?! Well let's hope so.
When Eck comes back, I would like Jerry Jr. to rotate to short, and Miggy to 3b, Headley to left. Check out these splits.
Headley:
sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=28809
Hairston:
sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=5401
Headley is batting .317 vs RHP, and Hairston .284 vs LHP. Both are batting poor from their other sides.
You give Headley the start vs RHP, and Hairston the nod vs LHP. Someone said something earlier about defense in left; I don't quite remember how Chase's defense was in left, but Hairston sure does have his flukes.
That being said, here's my lineups:
vs LHP
1. Jerry Jr.
2. Eckstein
3. Gonzo
4. Ludwick
5. Tejada
6. Hairston
7. Torre
8. Norv
vs RHP
1. Jerry Jr.
2. Eckstein
3. Gonzo
4. Ludwick
5. Headley
6. Tejada
7. Torre
8. Norv

One of the great things about this team is the flexibility, and I expect Bud will continue to rotate guys to keep them fresh, and choose his lineups based on specific match-ups, not necessarily straight-up left/right platooning. That being said, here is my idea of a good lineup model.
vs. RHP
1. Eckstein/J. Hairston 2B
2. Tejada SS
3. Gonzalez 1B
4. Ludwick RF
5. Headley 3B
6. Torrealba/Venable C/LF
7. Venable/Hundley LF/C
8. Gwynn CF
9. Pitcher
vs. LHP
1. J. Hairston SS
2. Eckstein 2B
3. Gonzalez 1B
4. Ludwick RF
5. Tejada 3B
6. Torrealba/S. Hairston C/LF
7. S. Hairston/Hundley LF/C
8. Denorfia CF
9. Pitcher
I'm excited to see what Bud comes up with down the stretch. As much as I loved watching the '98 team dominate the NL, this is the funnest Padres squad I've watched since '84. Hands down.

I think we have alot of moving pieces, so I am not sure we will see a consistent lineup with Jerry, Tejada, Headley, Eck, Hairston, Deno, and Gwynn moving around alot.
I like having Venable, Ludwick, Gonzo, Gwynn and Headley always in against RH... Tejada, Ludwick, Gonzalez, Hairston against LH. I think Torrealba should bat 5th when he is in, Hundley one or two spots lower.
I am also not sold that Gwynn should not be out there some against lefties since he has torched them this season (And struggled against RH) and Deno looks out of whack sometimes as they start to throw him more breaking balls (He pulls off on them alot).
If you try and make one and stick with it, I feel like Jerry needs a place more so then others as he is the only one producing in the leadoff spot.
Jerry Jr. lf
Eck 2b
Gonzalez 1b
Ludwick rf
Tejada ss
Torrealba C
Headley 3b
Venable cf
...would be our most potent lineup against RH Pitchers
Jerry Jr. ss
Eck 2b
Gonzalez 1b
Ludwick rf
Tejada 3b
Torrealba c
Hairston lf
Gwynn cf
...would be our most potent lineup against LH pitchers
Just one man's opinion.
