Good:
Jason Marquis – 6IP, 3H, 2R, 1ER, 4BB, 3K. Cutting down on the walks would be nice, but Marquis has six wins, tied for third in the NL.
Chris Denorfia – 3-4, RBI (14), SB. Denorfia is on fire, over his last five games he is 8-20.
Will Venable – 1-4, HR (7). Most home runs ever hit in Petco? 14, by Adrian Gonzalez. Venable has six and the ball hasn’t even started to carry yet.
Everth Cabrera – 2-3, run scored, triple. He now has a very respectable .264/.350/.368 slash line this season.
Bad:
John Baker – 0-3 2K. As Grandal’s return comes closer, Baker’s departure does as well.
Ugly:
Carlos Quentin – I realize Quentin is hitting .178, but I’m not concerned about his back. His sliding is another matter it itself. I guess I should call it rolling as he did in the sixth inning.
Jack Deck – The new deck in right field, which has been termed the #whiskeydeck, is now being referred to by Padres folk as the “Jack Deck”. Homers are Jacks, it’s sponsored by Jack Daniels, I get it. That doesn’t stop Jack Deck from sounding very forced and awkward. I’m sure the Padres and Jack Daniels can come up with something better and until they do, I will enjoy using #whiskeydeck all season long. I encourage you to do the same.
