Good:

Yonder Alonso – 1-3 and now a six-game hitting streak.

Clayton Richard  – 6IP, 2H, 0ER, 4BB, 4K.  Richard typically throws well at Petco and today was no different.

Anthony Bass – 2IP, 0H, 0ER, 1BB, 1K.  Bass did not allow a run during the home stand.

Bad:

Nick Hundley – 0-4 3K.  Hundley has had a great start to the season, but today slowed things a bit.

Ugly:

Bud Black – After Betancourt walked the first two batters in the ninth, Black orders his cleanup hitter Jesus Guzman to bunt, a risk in itself.  Guzman was successful with his bunt attempt and he moved the runners over, only to have one run eventually score on a sacrifice fly, eventually losing 2-1.

We all play arm-chair manager now and again, but this was a terrible move.  One of your better hitters at the plate with two men on, no outs, a Pitcher that is having trouble finding the plate and Black not only give an out away, but you lose one of your better hitters to move runners over.

We can talk about the risk of Guzman hitting into a DP, but over his career, hitting with men on first and second he has a slash line of .318/.333/.409.  Not exactly a candidate to bunt in my opinion.
