The Padres own Corey Brock posted on Twitter that Chase Headley is expected to join the club later this week for the Padres/Dodgers series finale in Los Angeles. Brock noted that Headley’s return was contingent upon how he felt after tonight’s game, but the outlook was optimistic nonetheless. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon on the last day of Headley’s rehab assignment at single-A Lake Elsinore.

During his time with the Storm, Headley went 2-for-9 and also saw some action at third base in three games. Headley will be in the Storm’s lineup for tonight’s game against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes where Dodgers pitcher Ted Lily will also be making a rehab start for LA’s single-A affiliate.

Headley has been sidelined since fracturing his left thumb on March 17th following a hard slide into second base. The third baseman sported a .448 batting average in 12 games this spring, going 13-for-29 with three doubles and three RBI.
