Lake Elsinore Player and Pitcher of the Month: July 2012
Last season we noted the injury of catcher Tommy Medica and the surgery that followed. Since coming back from that injury Medica has mostly been used as a DH/1B as he continued to rehab his shoulder and never gave up on the idea of catching in the future. Medica has caught one game this season but continues to play most of his games as a DH/1B. Obviously his shoulder has not come all the way back from his injury but his bat continues to develop at a startling pace.
Medica leads the Storm in HR and RBI and is among league leaders in RBI as well. His .347/ .424/ .564 line in 27 games with 12 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR and 21 RBI is significantly ahead of 2B Justin Miller.
High draft picks Donovan Tate, Everett Williams and Corey Spangenberg are playing with the Storm this season with varying degrees of success.
Tate has been relatively injury free and posted a .289/ .443/ .337 July in 25 games but has had minimal extra base hits.
Williams was .313/ .375/ .550 in July over 19 games. He posted 8 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR and 7 RBI.
Spangenberg was injured for most of July but his season line is .277/ .326/ .364 with 12 2B, 8 3B, a HR and 39 RBI in 89 games.
Most of the heavy lifting for this team is not being done by them with Tate and Williams both trying to get their games back on track after two difficult seasons.
