Josh Johnson to Sign with Padres
All of a sudden, the Padres look to have a real solid rotation heading into 2014. According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, the Padres have signed SP Josh Johnson to a 1-year deal worth $8MM. Tim Dierkes of also reports that Johnson can earn an additional $1.25MM if he makes at least 26 starts.

Update: Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports tweets that if Johnson makes fewer than seven starts, the Padres get a $4MM club option for 2015.

Josh Johnson HAD a good career. He has had 2 consecutive losing years. Last year: 2-8 record and 6.20 E.R.A. He doesn’t have much in his arm after 2 years of arm trouble. The Padres will sign anyone on the downside of their career and who will help make sure they can keep their good young players in the minors.

Do.not.worry. His mechanics are screwed up, and there’s no better place to get your mechanics re-aligned and your chassis lubed than the Black-Balsley fixit shop. Supposedly, he had a better offer elsewhere, but the combo of Petco and the master mechanics at B&B made the sale.
