Padres Are Ready to Sell

According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, “At Sunday’s All-Star Futures Game, the biggest in-season gathering of baseball executives, the word was that the Padres are open for business, and that they would even listen if someone wants to talk about third baseman Chase Headley.” He mentions that the Padres aren’t eager to move Headley, and that if teams are interested (which they are), it would take a big offer to acquire him.

While Headley is a possibly, it is believed by most that closer Huston Street and starter Edinson Volquez are the Padres most likely to be dealt by the July 31st deadline. Despite his recent struggles, teams should also be interested in set-up man Luke Gregerson.

Who else do you think the Padres should be looking to sell? Leave your thoughts below.

    Venable, Guzman, Amarista/Forshyte, Marquis, Stults

    • Rafael Solorzano

I agree with Venable and Guzman but absolutely not with Amarista/Forshyte, Marquis, Stults.

Stults should definitely not be traded in my opinion. He may be 33-years-old, but given that he knows how to mix pitches and change speeds, he could be an effective pitcher intomhislate 30s or early 40s. Amarista is still young (24) and very versatile. I’d give him at least one more year to see how his bat develops. He’s no more than a platoon guy unless he can prove otherwise. I could see the other guys as potential trade candidates though.
