This was the week of the signing deadline for the 2010 draft and the Padres made some last minute signings that added to the roster. OF Jose Dore (8th round) signed and was sent to the Padres to finish the season. Most likely he will also be assigned to the AZL Fall League. Pitcher William Scott (32nd round) was also signed and sent to the AZL Padres.
Other changes: 2B Ryan Skube spent a few days with the Lak Elsinore Storm, helping out during a DL stint . C J. Pozo was promoted to Lake Elsinore P Steve Garrison rejoined the Storm to continue a rehab assignment In going 3-2 for the week the Padres moved their record to 18-29 for the season. This puts them in 3rd place in their division about 8 back of the leading AZL Rangers. Standouts for the week continue to be many of the same players. SS BJ Guinn is having a terrific rookie season and hit his first triple of the year. He also added 3 more stolen bases during the week. He has a .321 avg with a .411 OBP and 25 stolen bases for the season. He has committed 7 errors. 3B Daniel Garcia had a 2/5 day with a run, HR and 2 RBI. That gives him a season .323 avg. That was his first HR of the season. 1B Carlos Garcia leads the team in HR with 4 and has a .280/.356/.492 line and a team leading 26 RBI. New signees J. Dore and W. Scott made their debuts. Dore went 2/4 with 2 runs , a double and a BB. Scot started the same game with 2.2 IP , H, BB, SO for a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA. OF Donovan Tate continues to struggle with the stomach/intestinal illness that has plagued him for the last several weeks. He has been sent out for further medical evaluation. For those of you who are interested, Tate has played in 25 games (sporadically) with 90 AB. He has scored 19 runs, had 20 hits with 5 double, 2 HR, 10 RBI and 15BB/41 SO. He has stolen 7 bases. This gives him a .222/.336/.344 line for his first season so far. The curse of the first round pick continues.
