Utilityman Andy Parrino played in all but one game during the week, rotating his time between 3B and SS on the field. His 13/23 (.565 avg) with 8 runs scored, 3 2B, 3 RBI elevated his overall average to .432 for third best in the league and best on the team. Catcher Luis Martinez played in 4 games and brought his overall average up to .414 but does not rank in the league because he does not have enough plate appearances. Starting pitcher Erik Davis had 2 starts with one no decision and one loss to put him at 0-3 and a 9.28 ERA. He allowed 10 hits and 7 runs in his last performance. The relief pitching has also not gone too well for the Padres representatives. Alexis Lara has improved his ERA to 19.06 but in inconsistent fashion. Brad Brach and Colt Hynes both had inconsistent results, with Brach blowing a lead and absorbing a loss to give him a 1.93 ERA.
Both Brach and Hynes were named to the AFL Rising Stars game, the AFL version of an All Star game. They were the only Padres representatives on the team. Brach pitched 1 inning with 2 strikeouts. Hynes pitched to 3 hitters allowing a hit and a base on balls before being removed with 2 men on base and the lead on the line. The West went on to win the game 3-2. In other off-season action, the winter leagues are under way and there are several Padre players active in Mexico, the Dominican and one in Puerto Rico. Everth Cabrera was sent to the Dominican league to work on his hitting and fielding skills during the off-season. In 9 games played and 24 at bats he had 3 hits and 4 BB with 6 SO before injuring his hamstring and playing his last game on 10/31. He has since reportedly left the team and gone home to recover. 1B Matt Clark has played 13 games in the Mexican league with a .196/.275/.217 line over 46 at bats. SS Jose Lopez is also playing in the Mexican league with a .269/.338/.328 avg over 22 games and 67 at bats. Catcher Ali Solis, also in the Mexican league, had played in 17 games and 60 at bats with a .300/.338/.433 line. Catcher Emmanuel Quiles has played in 1 game in Puerto Rico. Pitchers Matt Buschman, Juan Oramas, Stiven Osuna and Cesar Ramos are all pitching in the Mexican league with Radhames Liz, and Luis Perdomo pitching in the Dominican league. Liz, Oramas and Buschman are starters with Buschman having pitched the most (4 games) with a 2-0 record and 4.30 ERA. Oramas had a bad start in his only game pitched and allowed 3 runs and 3 BB in 0.2 innings. Liz has pitched in 3 games (14 IP) and has a 1-1 record with a 1.29 ERA and 18 strikeouts. Of the relievers, Osuna has pitched 6.2 innings over 6 games with a 1.35 ERA. Luis Perdomo has 3.1 IP over 4 games and a 2.70 ERA Cesar Ramos has started and relieved over 6 games and 22 IP for a 0-1 record and 4.91 ERA. The various winter leagues will all conclude their regular season at the end of December. The Caribbean series is played in February on the 2nd thru the 7th. There will be updates on the progress of the Padres players performing in the winter leagues and the season progresses.
