Anthony Bass makes his AAA debut and Anthony Rizzo aggravates a hand injury in Vegas. The Storm bullpen comes up huge as they grind out a late victory. Keyvius Sampson posts another good start but Tincaps fall late.
Tucson Padres 4, Las Vegas 51’s 1 Will Venable-RF: 0-4, BB, Run scored, K Steve Tolleson-3B: 3-5, RBI Anthony Rizzo-1B: 1-2, 2b (removed from game for bruised hand) Matt Clark-1B: 1-2, HR (8), K Jarrett Hoffpauir-2B: 1-4, 3b, Run scored Andy Parrino-SS: 0-3, RBI, K Jesus Guzman-DH: 1-3, BB, RBI, 2 K’s Anthony Bass-SP: 5.0 IP, 6 hits, ER, 3 K’s Colt Hynes-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit Evan Scribner-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 K, Save (5)
Notes: Anthony Rizzo aggravated a bruised hand when the third base umpire’s mask mistakenly came in contact with it. He was replaced by Matt Clark, a natural 1st baseman, and launched his 8th homer of the month. Infielder Steve Tolleson made his T-Pad debut after being traded from the A’s organization. For the Sacramento River Cats he was batting .274 with a .388 OBP and 5 homers. Jarrett Hoffpauir established a 4 game hit streak and has hits in 9 of his last 10 games. Anthony Bass made an admirable start on loan from double A San Antonio in his triple A debut.
San Antonio Missions Day off
Lake Elsinore Storm 7, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6 Reymond Fuentes-CF: 0-3, BB, Run scored Dean Anna-2B: 1-4, 2 RBI Jedd Gyorko-3B: 1-5, HR (12), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored Edinson Rincon-DH: 2-5, RBI, K Jason Hagerty-C: 2-4, BB, Run scored Nate Freiman-1B: 1-4. Notes: The Storm overcame a rough start for Mike Watt and scored all 7 of their runs in the 5th inning or later, and scored in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Dodgers starter Vicente Padilla no-hit The Storm but that was the extent of his rehab start. The Storm also managed to overcome a strange inability to bat in clutch situations going just 2-15 with runners in scoring position but still managed to score 7 runs. Jedd Gyorko is tied for 2nd in the CAL league in home runs and leads the league with 52 RBI.
Fort Wayne Tincaps 3, Clinton Lumber Kings 4 Rymer Liriano-CF: 2-5, Run scored, 2 K’s Luis Domoromo-RF: 2-5, Run scored, Caught stealing Wes Cunningham-DH: 0-3, BB Tommy Medica-1B: 1-4, 2b, RBI, Run scored Jose Dore-LF: 1-4, L Chris Bisson-2B: 2-4 Keyvius Sampson-SP: 5.0 IP, 3 hits, BB, 2 ER, 3 K’s, HR allowed
Notes: The dominant Keyvius Sampson turned in another fine start but was unable to collect his 7th win. The home run that Jabari Blash hit off of Sampson in the fifth inning was only the second he has allowed all season and the first since May the 1st. Pat McKenna who originally appeared in Tucson as an infield reserve made his 5th appearance for the Tincaps and is now tied with Eddy Rodriguez for most affiliates played for among Padre farm hands. If Eddy visits Fort Wayne or Pat gets called up to Lake Elsinore they will have played for all four full-season affiliates.
