Sharing is Caring

Lefty Juan Oramas pushes his perfect record to 4-0 with a win over Northwest Arkansas. Logan Forsythe goes 4-5 with a stolen base to key a T-Pad win over Sacramento. Andrew Werner impresses in his second CAL league start.

Tucson Padres 12, Sacramento River Cats 7

Everth Cabrera-SS: 2-6, Run scored, Stolen base (14)

Logan Forsythe-2B: 4-5, BB, 2b, 4 runs scored, Stolen base (7)

Steve Tolleson-3B: 3-6, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, K

Matt Clark-1B: 3-5, 2b, HR (14), 4 RBI, 2 runs scored

Kyle Blanks-LF: 1-4, BB, RBI, Run scored, K

Aaron Cunningham-RF: 1-4, BB, RBI, Run scored, K

Luis Martinez-C: 2-5, 2 2b, 4 RBI, 3 K’s

Jeremy Hefner-SP: 5.0 IP, 4 hits, 4 BB, 3 ER, 3 K’s

Luis Perdomo-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit

Notes: The Tucson Padres top 4 in the batting order combined for 12 hits, 2 doubles and a home run in another high scoring affair. In a very hitter friendly PCL this year gaudy numbers are rendered less impressive, having said that that, 7 of the T-Pad starting 9 began the game with batting averages over .300; 6 of the 7 were everyday players. Luis Martinez should be counted to make it 7 for 7, but he has been limited to just 36 games this year and this was his first action since the 18th.

San Antonio Missions 8, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 2

Blake Tekotte-CF: 2-4, BB, 2 2b, RBI, 2 runs scored, K

Jaff Decker-LF: 1-3, BB, HR (12), 2 runs scored

James Darnell-3B: 0-2, 3 BB, 2 runs scored

Bobby Kielty-DH: 4-4, 3 2b, 4 RBI

Beamer Weems-SS: 1-4, K

Anthony Conteras-2B: 1-4, 2b, Run scored, K

Juan Oramas-SP: 7.0 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER, 6 K’s, Win (4-0)

Craig Italiano-RP: 1.0 IP, BB, 2 K’s

Notes: After experiencing a bit of an offensive resurgence early in the season, Beamer Weems has fallen back to earth quickly. After posting batting averages of .324 and .281 in May and June, his average plummeted to .156 in June with 28 K’s and only 4 walks. Juan Oramas remains undefeated in 7 Texas League starts so far this year. He has allowed only 32 hits in 37.1 innings pitched and has yet to allow more than 2 runs in any of his 8 appearances in the Texas League.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3

Reymond Fuentes-CF: 0-4, K

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 2-4, RBI, Stolen base (18)

Jedd Gyorko-3B: 0-4

Jake Blackwood-2B: 1-4, 2 K’s

Jason Hagerty-C: 0-2, 2 BB

Nate Freiman-1B: 2-4,

Jonathan Galvez-DH: 0-2, RBI, K

Andrew Werner-SP: 7.0 IP, 4 hits, BB, ER, 5 K’s

Notes: Andrew Werner was once again brilliant in his second CAL league start. After tossing 6 shutout innings with 10 K’s in his last start, Werner strung together 7 innings of 4 hit baseball, allowing just a single run in the third inning. In 13 total CAL league innings Werner has punched out 15 batters while walking only one and allowing the single run. Reymond Fuentes’ batting average has deflated a bit over the last month but he has been showing progress at the plate. After taking just 9 walks through 26 games in May, June marked an uptick in the speedy centerfielder’s plate discipline, he accepted 13 free passes in 23 games.

Fort Wayne Tincaps 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 4

Rico Noel-CF: 1-2, 2 BB, Run scored

Rymer Liriano-RF: 0-3, BB, Run scored, 2 K’s

Luis Domoromo-LF: 0-3, BB, K

Chris Bisson-2B: 0-4, 3 K’s

Wes Cunningham-DH: 0-4, K

Connor Powers-1B: 0-3, BB

Johnaldo Pozo-C: 1-2, 2 BB

Brian Guinn-SS: 1-4, Run scored, 2 K’s, Stolen base (19)

Adys Portillo-SP: 5.0 IP, 2 BB, 5 hits, ER, HR allowed, 5 K’s

Jeff Ibarra-RP: 2.0 IP, BB, 4 K’s

Notes: Rico Noel extended his modest hitting streak to 6 and has at least one hit in 8 if his last 10 starts. In those 10 games Noel has cobbled together a .268/.367/.293 batting line, not overly impressive, but still a significant improvement from his overall numbers. 6’6” lefty Jeff Ibarra has been on a bit of a hot streak himself, he has allowed only 4 runs in his last 11 innings pitched and if you pull one poor appearance out of the equation, he has allowed only one run on two hits in his last 9 innings pitched. In his last 10 games he has struck out 15 batters while walking 5.

Eugene Emeralds 6, Salem-Kaizer Volcanoes 3

Jace Peterson-SS: 2-4, BB, 2b, K, 2 stolen bases (4)

Clint Moore-3B: 0-3, BB, Run scored, 3 K’s

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 1-3, BB, 2b, RBI, 2 runs scored, K

Lee Orr-RF: 1-2, 2 BB, HR (1), 3 runs scored

Travis Whitmore-DH: 2-4, 2b, 3 RBI, K

Matt Colantonio-C: 2-4, RBI, Stolen base (1)

Kyle Gaedele-CF: 0-2, 2 BB, K

Colin Rea-SP: 5.0 IP, 3 hits, BB, 2 K’s, Win (2-0)

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, K, Save (6)

Notes: DH Travis Whitmore has 12 hits in his last 9 games with 4 multi-hit games sprinkled in. Overall his batting average stands at .375 with 4 extra base hits in 11 games. Brown University product Matt Colantonio has impressed so far in the NWL season with a .375/.444/.417 slash line through his 9 starts.

AZL Padres 5, AZL Angels 4

Alberth Martinez-CF: 2-5, Run scored, 2 stolen bases (5)

Yoan Alcantra-RF: 1-4, 2 RBI, Stolen base (3)

Duanel Jones-3B: 1-4, BB, RBI, Run scored

Paul Karmas-1B: 1-4, 2b, RBI, K

Yair Lopez-LF: 2-4, BB, 2b, 2 runs scored, 2 K’s

Rashad Ingram-2B: 2-4, Stolen base (2)

Marlon Claveria-SP: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 K’s

Jean Corpas-RP: 3.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 RA, 0 ER, 4 K’s, Win (1-0)
