The Storm survive a shoot-out setting up a critical rubber match with the 66'ers. The speedy Jace Peterson leads the Emeralds to a one run victory over Yakima. Tucson Padres 1, Tacoma Rainiers 6
Notes: After picking up only 1 hit in his first 4 games back from his brief stay in the major leagues James Darnell has picked up 4 hits in the last 3 games. Samuel Deduno was impressive in his return to the rotation initially, but in his last three starts he has coughed up 15 runs on 23 hits and 13 walks in 17.1 innings.
San Antonio Missions 1, Midland Rock Hounds 5
Notes: Before Monday Vince Belnome had not played in a game since July 11th, and before July 10th he hadn’t played since June 23rd. Despite the fact that he has only 8 AB’s between June 23rd and Monday of this week, If Belnome is indeed healthy adding his bat to the lineup could key a championship run for the Missions. In May and June he racked up 25 extra base hits and 45 RBI’s, often batting 4th or 5th in the lineup.
Lake Elsinore Storm 14, Inland Empire 66’ers 7
Notes: The Storm picked up a critical win, setting up the most important game of the CAL league season so far. The winner of tomorrow’s rubber match will be assured a home playoff series in the forthcoming CAL league playoffs. Tommy Medica is leading the charge toward the playoffs, picking up 12 hits in his last 7 games played and batting .311 in the month of August.
Fort Wayne Tincaps 8, South Bend Silver Hawks 9
Notes: For the first time in 6 games Cory Spangenberg took a walk, and extended a new hitting streak to 3 games on Wednesday. Cory has improved his play significantly over the last 3+ weeks in the MWL but his walk rates are way down and his strikeout rates are still way up when compared to his Northwest league numbers. Luis Perdomo has produced impressively since joining the Tincaps midseason, but he has struggled against left handed pitching, his OPS is 170 points lower against lefties than righties.
Eugene Emeralds 7, Yakima Bears 6
Notes: Jace Peterson has racked up 5 stolen bases in his last 4 games, impressive considering has only 3 hits during that time. In 70 professional games he has already accumulated 37 stolen bases while being caught only 9 times. Counting his 30 steals in about 60 games at McNeese State in Louisianna, He has stolen 67 bases in roughly one minor league seasons’ worth of games this year. If his batting average catches up to his already impressive speed and on base skills Peterson could be in line for a breakout season in 2012.
