Tincaps fall one out short of no-no, Castro wins Pitcher of the Week
Portland Beavers 7, Iowa Cubs 4 Cedric Hunter-CF: 3-5, 2 2b, Run scored Mike Baxter-RF: 2-5 Josh Barfield-LF: 1-4, 2b, RBI, Run scored Wily Mo Pena-1B: 4-5, HR (5), 3 RBI Kyle Phillips-3B: 2-4, 2b, 3b, BB, Run scored Corey Luebke-SP: 5.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K’s- 1-3, Run scored Notes: Corey Luebke, who bats right handed despite pitching left handed, has proved an adequate hitter since joining the beavers. He has collected 3 hits in his six starts and scored a run while performing a nice hook slide past the catcher last night.
San Antonio Missions 10, Frisco Rough Riders 4 Blake Tekkotte-CF: 3-5, RBI, Runs scored Logan Forsythe-2B: 1-5, RBI, Stolen base James Darnell-3B: 1-4, BB, Run scored Matt Clark-1B: 2-5, 2 RBI, Run scored Luis Martinez-SS: 4-4, 2 Runs scored Erik Davis-SP: 6.0 IP, 4 hits, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, Win (1) Notes: The Missions completed a 4 game sweep of the Rough Riders last night, they have won 7 out of 9 since august 1st. Simon Castro garnered Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors for 2 starts that totaled 11.0 IP, 10 K’s and only one ER.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps 2, Bowling Green Hot Rods 0 Danny Payne-CF: 3-4, 2b, Run scored Jedd Gyorko-DH: 1-4, 2b Jason Hagerty-C: 1-4 Jeudy Valdez-2B: 1-4, HR (10), 2 RBI Nathan Freiman-1B: 1-3, BB Jose DePaula-SP: 3.0 IP, 2 K’s Joshua Spence-RP: 3.0 IP, 2 BB, 4 K’s Notes: The Tincaps came within one out of the first no hitter in club history on Monday. Bowling Green center fielder Ty Morrison blooped a single into right field in the bottom of the 9th with two out off of Jackson Quezada. The Hot Rods made only 29 plate appearances during the game, two more than the minimum.
Eugene Emeralds 3, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 1 Rymer Liriano-RF: 1-4, 3b, RBI, Run scored Luis Domoromo-LF: 1-4, 2b, Run scored Wesley Cunningham-1B: 1-1, 2 BB, RBI Jablonski “Rico” Noel-CF: 0-2, 2 BB Tyler Stubblefield-SS: 2-4, Run scored Mitch Branham-SP: 4.0 IP, 3 hits, 4 BB, 4 K’s Allen Marona-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 K, Save (4) Notes: Tyler Stubblefield was the only Emerald who managed more than one hit in the game, and only two of Eugene’s hits went for extra bases. Allen Marona extended his scoreless inning streak to 8.2.
AZL Padres 4, AZL Giants 0 Brian Guinn-SS: 1-4 Joe Agreste-1B: 2-3, 2b, Runs scored Bryan Altman-3B: 1-3, HR (1), 2 RBI Corey Adamson-LF: 2-3, 2b, RBI, Run scored Rob Gariano-SP: 6.0 IP, 4 hits, 1 BB, 3 K’s Notes: Monday marked only the second time all season that the AZL Padres pitching staff was able to shut-out their opponents. Ironically enough reliever Stalyn Valdez pitched the final innings of both games.
