Padres Daily Farm Round-Up: Opening day edition

Sampson, T-Pad offense punctuate exciting day one of minor league action

Tucson Padres 18, Colorado Springs Sky Sox 15

Everth Cabrera-SS: 4-7, 2b, RBI, 3 runs scored

Logan Forsythe-2B: 2-3, 4 BB, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored

Matt Clark-LF: 2-4, 2B, 2 BB, 2 runs scored

Luis Durango-CF: 2-3, BB,  RBI, Run scored

Scott Munter-RP: 0.2 IP, 1 K

Notes: On a crazy night for offense that saw the two teams combine for 15 extra base hits, Scott Munter was the only pitcher not to allow a run. Turns out the country’s highest elevation ballpark does wonders for flyballs.

San Antonio Missions 3, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 2

Sawyer Carroll-DH: 2-3

Beamer Weems-SS: 2-3, 2b

Daniel Robertson-RF: 1-3, BB, 2 runs scored

Kyle Phillips-C: 1-4, 2b, 2 RBI

James Darnell-3B: 1-3, 2b, RBI, Run scored

Anthony Bass-SP: 6.0 IP, 4 hits 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR allowed

Brad Brach-RP: 1.0 IP, 3 K’s

Notes: After extensive action with the big club during spring training Colt Hynes and Brad Brach pitched two perfect innings to close out the game. After playing at third exclusively for Lake Elsinore last season slugger Vince Belnome has shifted to second as third baseman James Darnell begins his second year in San Antonio after plenty of bad luck last year.

Lake Elsinore Storm 0, San Jose Giants 4

Reymond Fuentes-CF: 1-2, 2b, BB, K

Nate Freiman-1B: 1-3, BB

Edinson Rincon-3B: 1-4

Rico Noel-LF: 1-3

Matt Lollis-SP: 6.0 IP, 4 hits, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K’s, HR allowed

Notes: The Storm outfield is going to be stupid good defensively this season. Reymond Fuentes and Rico Noel both have ++ range and Rymer Liriano sports the Padres finest outfield arm.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps 2, South Bend Silverhawks 1

Donavan Tate-CF: 1-4, 2 K’s

Wes Cunningham-1B: 1-2, BB, Run scored

Tommy Medica-DH: 2-3, 2b, RBI run scored

Jose Dore-RF: 2-3, K

Chris Bisson-2B: 1-3, 2 K’s

Keyvius Sampson-SP: 6.0 IP, 10 K’s (yup that’s it)

Notes: Sampson had a brilliant first half last year at short season Eugene but was eventually shut down with shoulder soreness, he got right back to his dominating ways pitching 6 perfect innings on opening day. Jose Dore hit .375 in a brief 16 AB stint with the AZL Padres last year after being drafted.

Eugene Emeralds

Season begins June 17
