Padres Daily Farm Round Up: 4-14-11 Forsythe matches last year’s home run total in his 30th at bat of 2011. Kyle Blanks returns to the field as Missions coax 5 walks from Lamb. Fuentes extends hitting streak to 7.
Tucson Padres 12, Salt Lake City Bees 5 Everth Cabrera-SS: 2-5, 2 2b, 2 runs scored, K Logan Forsythe-2B: 1-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K’s Aaron Cunningham-RF: 2-5, 2b, 3 runs scored Matt Clark DH: 3-5, 2b, RBI, 2 runs scored Anthony Rizzo-2-5, HR, K Guillermo Quiroz-C: 3-5, 2 2b, 4 RBI, Run scored, K Aaron Poreda-RP: 2.0 IP, 1 hit, 2 K’s Scott Munter-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit
Notes: The T-Pads went 7-18 with runners in scoring position and Salt Lake completed its first nine inning game of the young season. (no seriously) Guillermo Quiroz made the start for the fourth consecutive day as Luis Martinez has yet to be repaced on the roster after tweaking a hamstring in Colorado Springs. Logan Forsythe has now matched his home run total (3) from last year in only 32 AB’s.
San Antonio Missions 7, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4 Jaff Decker-LF: 2-5, 2 2b, 3 RBI, Run scored, K Kyle Blanks-DH: 1-4, Run scored, K James Darnell-3B: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI Cody Decker-1B: 3-4, HR, Caught Stealing Vince Belnome-2B: 1-3, BB, 2b, Run scored, K Blake Tekkotte-CF: 3-4 Casey Kelly-SP: 6.0 IP, 3 hits, 2 runs allowed, 1 ER, BB, 2 K’s Brad Brach-RP: 1.0 IP, 2 K’s
Notes: Kyle Blanks DH’d in his first competitive game since returning from Tommy John surgery. He figures to DH most of the time and mix in a few days at first base as he continues the recovery process. Blake Tekkotte was bumped from the lead-off spot to the 9 hole and responded well with a 3 hit night. Royals left-handed wunderkind (aren’t they all) John Lamb scuffled in his second consecutive start against the Missions by walking five across just 3.2 IP. In two starts against the Missions Lamb has yet to complete the 4th inning.
Lake Elsinore Storm 0, High Desert Mavericks 4 Reymond Fuentes-CF: 1-4 Jason Hagerty-C: 2-4. K Jedd Gyorko-3B: 1-4, 2 K’s Edinson Rincon-DH: 2-4, 2 K’s Rico Noel-LF: 1-3, K, Caught stealing Pedro Hernandez-RP: 3.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 4 K’s
Notes: The Storm matched the Mavs hit for hit (each team had 8) and even had one less error, but the offense went 1-7 with runners in scoring position and grounded into two double plays. Rico Noel got a hit in the first game of the series and looks to get off the skids after managing just one hit in each of the previous 2 series. (6 games total)
Fort Wayne Tin Caps 1, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4 Brian Guinn-SS: 0-4, 3 K’s Tommy Medica-1B: 2-4, BB, 2 b, Run scored Emmanuel Quiles-C: 1-2, BB, RBI Jose Dore-RF: 0-3 Zach Cates-SP: 4.1 IP, 3 hits, 3 BB, 3 ER, 5 K’s Matt Jackson-RP: 3.0 IP, 1 hit, 4 K’s
Notes: The Tincaps managed only 2 hits off of Bowling Green starter Braulio Lara, who punched out 6 in his 5 innings of work. Fort Wayne starter Zach Cates retired 8 batters via the groundball and 5 by way of strikeout, he did not give up a single fly ball out. Tommy Medica continues to absolutely crush baseballs, he has 10 hits (4 of them doubles) in 20 AB’s.
