Padres Daily Farm Round Up: 4-19-11 Kelly matches career high in K's as Missions win nail-biter. Fetter dominant against Mavericks. Rizzo logs a double and an RBI on a night where he doesn't even start.
Tucson Padres 6, Salt Lake City Bees 1 Everth Cabrera-SS: 1-4, Run scored, K, Stolen base (6) Jesus Guzman-3B: 1-3, BB, Run scored Anthony Rizzo-PH: 1-1, 2b, RBI Aaron Cunningham-RF: 2-4, Run scored Andy Parrino-2B: 2-3, Run scored Logan Forythe-2B: 1-4, HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 K’s Jon Leicester-SP: 4.0 IP, 1 hit, 3 BB, 2 K’s Samuel Deduno-RP: 3.0 IP, 2 hits, BB, 3 K’s
Notes: The T-Pads will look to earn their first consecutive victories of the year tonight. They nearly accomplished the first shutout in franchise history, but lost it in the eighth inning. Even on a night when he didn’t start Anthony Rizzo continues to turn up the volume on demands for him to be called up. Logan Forsythe returned to the line-up after dealing with some shoulder tendonitis. It was Tucson’s first error-free game of the year.
San Antonio Missions 3, Tulsa Drillers 2 Kyle Blanks-1B: 2-4, 2b, Run scored James Darnell-3B: 0-2, 2 BB, Run scored Vince Belnome-2B: 1-3, BB, RBI, K Ali Solis-C: 1-3, HR Casey Kelly-SP: 6.0 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K’s, 2 HR allowed Brad Brach-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 K, Save (3)
Notes: Casey Kelly matched a career high in K’s but received a 3rd straight no decision. Alexi Lara backed himself into a corner in the 8th inning of a 2-2 tie with back to back hits after retiring the first batter. Then Lara got himself out of the jam on a good pick off of Hector Gomez at 2nd base, the next batter hit a tall screaming liner to Kyle Blanks. Joe Torres opened the bottom of the eighth with 8 straight balls, following a sac bunt by Sawyer Carroll(his first in 3 years), a sac fly by pinch hitter Kyle Phillips plated James Darnell for the winning run. Darnell saw his hit streak come to an end at 11.
Lake Elsinore Storm 5, High Desert Mavericks 2 Reymond Fuentes-CF: 2-5, 2 K’s, Run scored Jedd Gyorko-DH: 2-5, 2 2b, 2 K’s, Run scored Jeudy Valdez-2B: 1-4, K, Stolen base (3) Jason Hagerty-C: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 RBI, Nate Freiman-1B: 2-4, 2b, Run scored Edinson Rincon-3B: 1-3, BB, 3 RBI Chris Fetter-SP: 6.0 IP, 1 hit, 6 k’s
Notes: 6’8” starting pitcher Chris Fetter made his 3rd start for The Storm on Tuesday. He was drafted by the Padres in ’09 but has appeared in only 26 games since then. He has punched out 12 and only walked one batter in his last two starts. After posting an OPS over .900 last season Jason Hagerty has only a .790 OPS to start this year, held back mostly by the fact that he has only 3 extra base hits.
