Padres Daily Farm Round Up: 4-24-11

Jaff Decker launches his 7th homer in support of Casey Kelly’s first win. Minor league veterans Guzman and Rodriguez lead the charge as T-Pads snap 3 game losing skid.

Tucson Padres 7, Fresno Grizzlies 5

Logan Forsythe-2B: 0-2, 3 BB, Run scored, K

Anthony Rizzo-1B: 1-4, Run scored, K

Luis Durango-LF: 1-3, 2 runs scored

Jesus Guzman-3B: 2-5, 2b, 3 RBI, K

Eddy Rodriguez-C: 2-4, HR (1), 2 K’s

Jesus Guzman-3B: 1-3, BB, RBI, Caught stealing

Jon Leicester-SP: 5.0 IP, 3 hits, BB, 4 K’s, W (1-0)

Aaron Poreda-RP: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 3 BB, 2 ER.

Notes: Sacramento starter Josh Outman struggled mightily with his command early in the game, issuing 4 walks and allowing 4 ER by the end of the 2nd inning. Recent signee Eddy Rodriguez leaned on a fastball in the second inning sending his first hit as a Padre over the left field wall. The Poreda walk-less/scoreless streak came to a close at 5. Poreda has allowed 6 runs in the 3 appearances in which he has issued at least one walk. He has allowed 0 runs in the 5 appearances in which he has not issued a walk. Jon Leicester made his second straight start in the stead of the injured Josh Geer. The 35 year old verteran has yet to allow a run as a starter.

San Antonio Missions 6, Midland Rockhounds 5

Blake Tekotte-CF: 2-3, 2 BB, HR (4), 2 runs scored, Stolen base (5)

Jeff Decker-LF: 1-4, BB, HR (7) 2 RBI, 3 K’s

Vince Belnome-2B: 1-3, BB, 2 K’s

James Darnell-3B: 1-3, 2 BB, 2b, 2 RBI, Run scored, 2 K’s, Stolen base (1)

Dan Robertson-LF: 2-4, 3b, 2 runs scored, Stolen base (2)

Casey Kelly-SP: 5.0 IP, 8 hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K’s, W (1-0)

Brad Brach-RP: 1.0, 1 hit, 1 K, Save (5)

Notes: Casey Kelly turned in his worst performance of the season so far but still managed to earn his first win as the Missions scored six runs before the end of the sixth. Kelly issued more walks and allowed more earned runs than in any previous start. Kelly continues to log a strong ground ball rate 8 of his 15 outs on Sunday came on the ground and his season rate sits comfortably over 50%. James Darnell has more than 5 walks per strike out so far this season, posting an otherworldly .589 OBP. Jaff Decker continues to hit the ball with authority but has contracted a nasty rash of strikeouts, 11 in the last 4 games.
