Padres Daily Farm Rizz-Up: 4-25-11

Anthony Rizzo continues to beat down the door to the major leagues by mashing his 7th homer. Anthony Rizzo’s 2 RBI and 2 runs scored lead T-Pads to second straight win over Grizzlies. RIZZOMANIA!

Tucson Padres 7, Fresno Grizzlies 5

Logan Forsythe-2B: 2-4, BB, RBI, Run scored, K

Anthony Rizzo-1B: 3-5, HR (7), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, K

Jesus Guzman-3B: 2-4, RBI, Run scored, Stolen base (2)

Matt Clark-DH: 3-5, 2b, RBI

Cedric Hunter-LF: 1-4, BB, RBI, Run scored

Simon Castro-SP: 5.0 IP, 7 hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K’s, W (2-1)

Aaron Poreda-RP: 0.2 IP, 2 BB

Samuel Deduno-RP: 1.1 IP, K

Notes: Simon Castro continues his rocky transition into AAA. He has allowed at least three runs and walked at least 3 in each of his four starts. Even more concerning is his K:BB ratio which stands at just 16:13. Opponents are batting .310 against him and he has allowed more hits than he has innings pitched. In this game Castro turned in four very good innings and one disastrous second innings. Luis Perdomo picked up his second save in as many nights after replacing Evan Scribner. Not much can be said about Anthony Rizzo that we haven’t said in the last week, 4 homers in 6 days, dude is good.

San Antonio Missions 7, Frisco Rough Riders 3

Blake Tekotte-CF: 2-3, 2 RBI, Run scored

Jaff Decker-LF: 0-2, BB, 2 K’s

James Darnell-3B: 1-5, BB, 2b, RBI, Run scored, K

Dan Robertson-LF: 2-4, Run scored

Cody Decker-DH: 0-1, 3 BB, K

Kyle Blanks-1B: 1-4, BB, 2b, RBI, Run scored

Eddie Kunz-RP: 1.1 IP, 1 hit

Alexi Lara-RP: 2.0 IP, 1 hit, BB, 4 K’s, W (2-0)

Brad Brach-RP: 1.0 IP

Notes: The Missions touched up Rangers super-prospect Martin Perez for 3 runs in the first inning but he settled in to log 4 straight scoreless frames. In his first start of the year Aaron Breit gave the Missions 3.2 serviceable innings. Breit had spent his first 3 years of pro ball as a starter but was converted to the bullpen in ’09. Aaron filled in Matt Buschmann’s rotation spot. We here at the Friarhood are trying to figure out why.  Jaff Decker’s sudden fit of strikeouts continues, he has 11 in the last 4 games.

Lake Elsinore Storm 9, Stockton Ports 3

Reymond Fuentes-CF: 0-5, Run scored

Jedd Gyorko-3B: 3-5, 2 2b, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 K’s

Edinson Rincon-DH: 3-4, 2b, RBI

Jason Hagerty-C: 1-3, BB, HR(2), 3 RBI, 2 runs scored

Rico Noel-LF: 1-4, RBI, Run scored, 2 stolen bases (6)

Chris Fetter-SP: 4.2 IP, 7 hits, 3 ER, 6 K’s, HR allowed

Pedro Hernandez-RP: 2.0 IP, 3 hits, BB, 3 K’s, W (1-0)

Notes: Starter Chris Fetter punched out 6 and walked none for the second start in a row and sport a 19:2 strikeout to walk ratio after 4 starts. Similarly his piggy-back partner Pedro Hernandez has struck out at least 3 and walked one or fewer in each of his four appearances following Fetter. Friarhood fave Rico Noel seems to be breaking out of his early season funk, he has six hits and only one K in the last 4 games.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps 1, Lake County Captains 2

Rymer Liriano-RF: 1-3, Stolen base (1)

Jake Blackwood-3B: 1-3

Tommy Medica-1B: 1-4, HR (1), K

Wes Cunningham-1B: 1-4, 2b

Jose Dore-LF: 1-3, 2b, 2 K’s

Chris Bisson-2B: 1-4

Andrew Werner-SP: 5.0 IP, 2 hits, BB, 2 ER, 5 K’s, HR allowed

Mark Hardy-RP: 3.0 IP, 2 hits

Notes: No player on either team got more than one hit in a game dominated by pitching. Moreover, of the six pitchers that appeared in the game only one walk was issued. Tommy Medica has been running roughshod over MWL league pitching since the season began and has had 8 doubles but blasted his first homer of the young season on Monday night. Jake Blackwood has not had a hit in two games since falling a single short of the cycle on the 23rd. After an aggressive assignment to Lake Elsinore, Rymer Liriano has returned to the appropriate level, he spent most of last season with the short season Emeralds.
