Sharing is Caring

tincapsFort Wayne has markedly improved play so far in the second half. The pitching has been more consistent and the hitters are doing better in scoring opportunities with some of the newly acquired players from the 2011 draft joining the ranks and contributing.

Outfielders Rymer Liriano and Luis Domoromo continue to do the heavy lifting as the two top HR hitters and RBI leaders. With Liriano contributing 2 RBI for the week and Domoromo knocking in 6 RBI.

Recently promoted Cory Spangenberg is continuing his adjustment to the TinCaps but has raised his average from .158 to .172 and had three RBI for the week.

1B Wes Cunningham, who shares time with Connor Powers, has a nice game on 7/23 versus the Quad City River Bandits with a double and 6 RBI for the game while holding his average around .260 for the year.

The TinCaps went 4-2 for the week and improved their overall second half record to 18-15 while holding their third place spot. They are five back of Dayton and Lansing is in second.

OF Mike Gallic joined Fort Wayne from Eugene on 7/28. Drafted in the 18th round of the 2011 draft the 6-2, 210 lb NY native is a toolsy player with plus speed, good defense and arm (can play CF), and above average power.

RHP Kevin Quackenbush was promoted from Eugene on 7/27. Drafted in the 8th round of the 2011 draft, the 6-3, 207 lb reliever from the Univ of Florida was a closer in college and has assumed the same role here for the TinCaps. He has a 90-95 mps FB, power slider and a change. He throws strikes and has walked few in his history.

Quackenbush closed two games during his first week, earning both saves, with 2 innings pitched, one hit,  four strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.

Other roster moves were the promotion of Oscar Garcia to Lake Elsinore as an injury replacement and moving  pitcher Chris Haney to the DL.

For those keeping tabs, starter Keyvius Sampson had another quality start. He went 5 innings while allowing three hits and a run with five strikeouts with a no decision. His ERA is an impressive 1.88 for the season.
