Davis Promoted to Lake Elsinore, Danny Payne returned to TinCaps The TinCaps have suffered through a brutal May so far going 7-11 including an 6 game losing streak preceeded by a 4 game losing streak. Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore exchanged outfielders this week in hopes of revving up a dormant offense for the TinCaps. OF Bo Davis (most memorable for his steal of home earlier this season) was promoted to Lake Elsinore and in return the TinCaps got OF Danny Payne. Bo Davis was exactly lighting it up in Fort Wayne, hitting only .213, but showed outstanding defense and superb speed. Payne was struggling at Lake Elsinore, hitting only .156. Since his demotion to Fort Wayne, Payne has assumed the lead off position in 5 games and is hitting .318 with a .360 OBP.. Bo Davis is off to a .333 start with the Storm in 2 games. Slow start, Fast finish? After starting 4-11 in May, the TinCaps have rebounded with three straight wins against Lake County and South Bend. The TinCaps will go for a sweep of South Bend on Wednesday. The resurgence has been due to solid pitching from Jerry Sullivan (6 IP, 7 K on Sunday), Mike Mikolas and Nick Schumacher (3 IP, 4 K on Monday), Daniel Sarria (5 IP, 4 K in his first start of the season on Tuesday). Danny Payne has lead the offense since joining the team five days ago, safely hitting in each game (7 hits in 22 at bats). The TinCaps are 3 games under .500 (18-21) but with a 6 game homestand vs. bottom feeder West Michigan and Great Lakes, followed by a month ending road trip to Bowling Green (last place), there is high hopes that the 'Caps will be over .500 soon. They are currently 5th in MID Eastern standings, 10 games back of red hot Lake County (28-11).
