They began with a 3 game series with the Great Lakes Loons, losing 2 of 3. And then they were swept by the West Michigan Whitecaps in 3 games. The beginning of a series with the South Bend Silver Hawks also resulted in a loss. This gives them an overall record of 6-9. OF Jose Dore is the most highly touted prospect currently in the regular starting lineup and he ended the week hitting .217. C/1B Tommy Medica, my personal sleeper pick for the season, had a 7/23 week with 5 runs, 4 2B and 5 RBI giving him a .345 average. 3b/DH Blackwood has hung around .350 since the beginning of the week with 3 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB and 3 SO. Starting pitcher Mark Hardy has received poor run support in his three starts and has a 1-3 record with a 2.08 ERA. His line of 4 games, 3 games started with 17.1 IP and 12 hits, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 11 SO and a 0.92 WHIP is second only to Keyvius Sampson for starting pitching. OF turned reliever Yefri Carvajal has started the season strong but had a hiccup during the week. He came into the 2nd week with appearances in 4 games, earning 3 holds with a 0.00 ERA. He held that for his first appearance of the second week but allowed 2 runs on a HR in his next appearance (blown save). The next appearance resulted in another blown save with 2 hits and 2 runs allowed that ballooned his ERA to 4.91. Promoting him to the closer role in the second week of his pitching career seems a little rushed to me. It will be interesting to see how he progresses from here on. Everett Williams and Donovan Tate remain on the DL and newly promoted Wande Olabisi struggled at the plate during his first week with the Tincaps. Australian Corey Adamson, the other OF promoted to replace the 2 colliding outfielders, is sharing CF with Oscar Garcia and played in only three games during his first week in Fort Wayne.
