The following 3 games series against the Lake County Captains resulted in losing 2 of 3 and needed another 1 hit gem from Keyvius Sampson to achieve their only win in the series. Their next 2 games, against the Dayton Dragons were both lost and the Tin Caps ended the week with a 2-5 record, which made them 8-14 overall. They were shutout twice during the week and were able to score more than 2 runs only twice during that period. Offensive struggles continue to be a theme of the early season for the Padres organization. 3B/DH Jake Blackwood continues his torrid streak and was a single short of the cycle in the first game of the double header against SB Silver Hawks. His only stumble was the 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts on 4/29. There were several roster changes during the week that resulted in OF Wande Olabisi going to Lake Elsinore and Rymer Liriano from Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne. The DSL Padres sent OF Alberth Martinez to Fort Wayne and he made his USA debut on 4/25. Catcher Dan Killian was moved from Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne. OF Dan Meely went from extended spring training to Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne, according to the MiLB transaction log but did not make an appearance with LE. OF Martinez is a 20 yr old and a native of Venezuela who began his professional career with the Dominican Summer League Padres of 2010. He did not play in many games (50) and had 180 AB with a .272/.337/.361 line. His 9 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 9 SB, 4 CS, 18 BB and 22 SO were not an overwhelming line in a small sample size. This may be just a quick appearance for Martinez but the Padres do not historically bring players up from the Dominican system unless they are ready for the US system. He was not in Peoria during the spring but may have been in extended spring since then. Watching his progress may show if he has advanced skills for his experience level, or not.
