TinCaps Week in review #5 5/7-5/13/11 PDF Print E-mail
On the Farm - Fort Wayne Tin Caps

Sharing is Caring

tincapsFort  Wayne finished the fifth week of the season with a 14-21 record, winning only two games over the past week and losing five. Ironically, they have the same record as the Lake Elsinore Storm over the same amount of games. Of the four minor league teams playing currently in the Padres organization only the San Antonio Missions have a winning record and all three with losing records are in last place. That is a lot of losing for so many talented teams and a real surprise for the Tin Caps especially.

With Donovan Tate and Everett Williams on the DL, much of their fire power has been diminished which accounts for some of the anemic offense. It is hopeful that Rymer Liriano, Jose Dore and Luis Domoromo, all talented batsmen, will be able to begin picking up the slack as the season progresses. Williams is out for the year but Tate is scheduled to come back the beginning of June.

Reliever Jeff Ibarra was promoted from extended spring training to supplement the bullpen and made one appearance.

Speaking of OF Domoromo, Luis improved his average from .280 to .357 during the week while scoring 3 runs, driving in 2 more and getting four base on balls. He had his first 4 for 4 day as a Tin Cap in a losing effort against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Jake Blackwood continues to be the most productive Tin Cap with he and Liriano batting 3rd and 4th most of the time. The other members of the lineup are beginning to warm up and raise their averages above .200 more consistently.

Starter Matt Branham has a 2-3 record but has pitched well over the last two weeks. In 11 IP he has allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs with 1 BB and 10 SO to lower his ERA to 3.45.
