LE plays a three game series against Lancaster to start the week, winning 2 of 3. They then open a three game series against Rancho Cucamonga, winning 2 of 3. After the first win against the Quakes, the Storm, with a 44-21 record, clinch the first half championship of the Cal League South. At the end of the week LE began their first series of the season against the San Jose Giants, losing the first game. The offense was not as assertive this week as they were during the previous week, with several of the players actually seeing a drop in their averages, although Drew Cumberland maintained at .371. The standout player during the week was Robert Lara, the surging backstop for the Storm. He raised his average from .281 to .321 during the course of the seven games. Scoring 3 runs, hitting a double and driving in 4 runs while going 6 for 10 while splitting duties with Adam Zornes. He has a two week hitting streak during this time, getting at least one hit in each game he has played. Cumulatively the two backstops were 9 of 22 with 2 doubles, 1 stolen base, and 5 RBI. The lone detraction being the combined 8 strikeouts, 6 by Zornes.
The pitching staff continued to show well with another dominating outing by Juan Oramas, who now has a 1.96 ERA and a 5-0 record with 5 more K’s. The biggest difficulties were experienced by Eric Gonzalez, who has struggled in relief and has a 14.29 ERA to show for his first 3 appearances. Reliever Zach Herr has been dominant of late and lowered his ERA to 1.72 before having one bad inning against San Jose, giving up 3 runs and raising his ERA to 2.48. Brad Brach, closer for the Storm, extended his saves number to 25 with his ERA at 2.25 after giving up 2 runs in his first save of the week. Roster changes during the week consisted of Anthony Bass pitching for the Portland Beavers in a spot start while Steve Garrison pitches for the Storm in his return from the DL. Kyle Blanks is promoted to the Beavers to continue his rehab stint. Bass returns to the Storm on 6/14. While clinching the first half, the Storm moved 7 games up on RC Quakes with only 2 games left to play before the All Star break. They resume their season 6/24 after their 4 day break.
