All Star Week The Storm completed their first half of the season with a series against the San Jose Giants, losing 2 of 3. Anthony Bass was the winning pitcher of the series, increasing his record to 6-2 with a 2.74 ERA. Bass is the third ranked pitcher in the league, based on ERA, but his strikeout to walk ratio is by far the best among league leaders, 59K/12 BB in 75.2 IP. He has only given up 5 HR for the first half. He was added to the Cal/Carolina League All Star team on 6/19. In that same win, Cody Decker (DH) went ¾ with 2 runs, a double, hR and 4 RBI, increasing his average to .275. In his final series as a member of the LE Storm, SS Drew Cumberland had 2 doubles and 3 strikeouts.
The Storm representatives in the All Star Game went a cumulative 1/8 with Cumberland getting the only hit. Anthony Bass pitched an inning of 1 hit ball with 1 K and closer Brad Brach got the save for the Cal League victors, pitching 1 inning with 1 hit allowed and 1 K. The Cal League All Stars had 4 runs on 6 hits with 0 errors and Carolina had 3 runs on 8 hits with 1 error. Drew Cumberland was then promoted to AA San Antonio. Pitcher Steve Garrison was also sent to the Portland Beavers during the break and returned after one start. The Storm will miss Drew but this is a well deserved promotion. SS Jesus Lopez was sent from SA to the Storm to replace Cumberland. After the break the Storm resumed their season with a series against the RC Quakes. The first game was played at the end of the week and the Storm won 3-1 with Jorge Reyes (8-4) pitching 3 innings with 2 K and lowering his ERA to 4.65. Starting pitcher Juan Oramas went 2 innings with 1 BB and 2 K, loweing his ERA to 1.88 in 48 IP. OF Yefri Carvajal returned from Portland after the break to replace CF Blake Tekotte, who was promoted to SA after the first game of the Quakes series . He will also be missed and will join Cumberland in the promotion ranks after the first half. Congratulations to them both.
