Sharing is Caring

storm_baseballDuring the month of June the Storm twice achieved the best record in professional baseball and sent six of their roster to the All Star game. They finished the month the way they started it, atop the Cal League South division. There were many standout performances during the month and it was difficult to pinpoint just two members of the team for distinction.

oramasIn recognition of his continued dominance during this season, 20 year old starting pitcher Juan Oramas (6-0) must be recognized for his work during the month of June. In five performances he totaled 18 IP with 12 hits, 3 runs (including 2 HR), 1 BB and 20 strikeouts.  He maintained an ERA of 1.80 for the month with only some slight fluctuations from one start to the next but began and ended the month with the same status.

His closest competitor was Anthony Bass (7-2), who pitched 21 innings with 18 hits, 8 runs (including 2 HR), 3 BB and 19 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA from 3.02 to 2.90 during the month and only had one game in which he gave up more than 5 hits and 1 run.

jdecker4Our hitter of the month is being recognized for making a rapid improvement during the first full month of his short professional career. Outfielder Jaff Decker started his season on the DL and was not able to join his team until May. He began the month of June hitting.131 and getting spotty playing time.

During the course of the month his playing time increased, directly proportional to his improved output. He began to drive the ball more frequently with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HR and 14 RBI to show for his effort. He also was able to work the count for 10 BB but still needs to work on his strikeout as he also totaled 16 K’s. But Jaff is now showing the power the Padres drafted him for as the first supplemental pick in last years draft. He finished the month with his average at .222, a big improvement over how it started.
