Sharing is Caring

storm_baseballThe Storm had a tough week, with the pitching staff struggling against the hitters of Lancaster and Rancho Cucamonga. In the 2 three game series, with double digit hits in 3 of the 7 games by the opponents, the pitchers had only one game in which they gave up less than 5 runs. In 6 of the 8 games the hitters were kept in single digits on hits, not usual for the Storm batters. Overall, they lost 5 of the 7 games played during the week.

There were bright spots, however. Left fielder Jaff Decker went 7 for 24 with 6 runs, 3 HR (including a grand slam), 10 RBI, a double and 5 BB. His average hovers around .250 but his power numbers are sky rocketing with 6 HR in the last 14 games and 13 for the season.

3B Vince Belnome was also a bright spot for the week. He went 11 for 24 with 3 runs, 2 HR, 4 RBI and 3 BB to increase his average to .260.

There were a couple notable performances on the pitching side. Reliever Rob Musgrave was pressed into starting duty and went 5 innings with 1 hit and 8 strikeouts for a 1.77 ERA for the season.

Reliever Nick Vincent pitched in 2 games with 3 IP, 1 H, 3 SO to keep his ERA 2.05 and a 4-0 season record.

Closer Brad Brach saved both wins for the week, pitching 2 innings with a strikeout and an ERA of 2.36. He tied and set the California League saves record for a season with his 37th and 38th saves. He has a 9.9K/9 IP pace for the year, easily the best of any pitcher on the staff, over 55.1 IP.

Then end of the week started another series with High Desert, with whom the Storm is tied for the lead in the second half. They remain the overall leaders for the season by 8 games.

The roster changes for the week only involved placing Cole Figueroa on the DL for a neck contusion and promoting Ryan Skube from the AZL Padres to replace him. Cole will be out for 7 to 14 days.
