The Lake Elsinore Storm concluded the 2010 regular season with two series against High Desert bracketed around their final series against Lancaster. They finished the year with a 81-59 record, the overall division winners by 3 games. They finished the second half 35-35, a third place finish for the second half of the season.

Three teams advanced to the playoff from the Cal League South; Rancho Cucamonga as the second half divison winners, High Desert for their combined finish and Lake Elsinore as the first half winners. The Storm meets RC in the best of five game first round of the playoffs.

1B/DH Cody Decker had a huge finish to his season with a 16 for 35 stretch with 10 R, 8 RBI, 4 2B, 5 HR, 12 BB and 7 SO to complete the season with a .270 avg. His 28 HR and 90 RBI was tops for the team this season. His accomplishments earns him our designation as the most surprising player of the season for the Storm. He has exceeded expectations as he has never been considered a high level prospect until now. He was also named Cal League player of the week during the month of August for his hot finish.

2B Cole Figueroa finished his season .303/.408/.392 for the best avg on the team. His position in the lineup, as the #2 hitter, was the most stable through the season. Cole had 25 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR and 66 RBI for the season. He also had 81 BB wth 26 SB with only 9 CS and 54 SO.

OF Daniel Robertson also had a strong season with a .300/.375/.418 line in 533 AB. He had 27 2B, 9 3B, 6 HR, 61 RBI with 59 BB and 30 SB. He struck out 52 times and had 9 caught stealing. The instructional league will give D-Rob the opportunity to convert his skills to an infield position to make better use of his talents. His size ( 5-8, 175) could limit his ability to compete long term in the outfield.

OF Jaff Decker had a frustrating season, as we discussed previously. His 17 HR was second only to Cody Decker but with only 290 AB, compared to 507 AB for Cody. Given a full, healthy season we look forward to what Jaff can accomplish.

The coaching staff of the Storm also earned accolades for their season.

Dave Rajisch, pitching coach for the Storm, was named Coach of the Year for his handling of the #1 ranked pitching staff.

Manager Carlos Lezcano was named Manager of the Year.

Two players received season end mention as well.

Closer Brad Brach was named Pitcher of the Year with his record breaking total of 41 saves on the season. He was also named to the Post Season All Stars.

Starting Pitcher Anthony Bass finished the season with an 8-7 record and a league leading 3.13 ERA and was also named a Post Season All Star.

Both Brach and Bass received mention by Baseball America for their skills. Bass for best control and Brach for best reliever in the Cal League.

The Storm pitching staff finished the season with an ERA of 3.83, by far the best of the entire Cal League. Their 1251.2 IP was second only to Rancho Cucamonga by 0.9 IP.

The standouts for the staff were league leader Anthony Bass, closer Brad Brach and starter/reliever Rob Musgrave (2.48 ERA).

SP Juan Oramas was outstanding in the first half and continued to excel, in limited innings, in the second half. He finished the season 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA. We look forward to what next season brings for all these pitchers.

Another reliever for the Storm, Nick Vincent, slipped under the radar but had a great season. In 81.2 IP, Nick had a team leading 1.87 ERA and a 4-0 record. In 48 G he allowed 60 hits with 24 runs, 7 HR, 23 BB and 76 SO with 9 holds. His accomplishments earn him some season ending recognition.

During the last week of the season, IF Chris Tremblay was called up to the Storm to provide extra help for the last week and the playoffs. He went 2 for 5 with a run in his first 2 games.

The Storm begin their post season on Sept 11 against Rancho Cucamonga. Post season updates will follow.
