Tucson_PadresThe Tucson Padres get two homeruns from Matt Clark and relief pitcher Evan Scribner saves four games in five days to give the T-Pads a winning week.

Salt Lake City was in town finishing up a four game series on Monday. T-Pad’s starting pitcher Will Inman faced off against Bee’s starter Matt Palmer. Palmer has three big league starts with the Los Angeles Angels this season and threw well on Monday, lasting seven innings while allowing two runs with five strikeouts.

SP Inman had six strikeouts in slightly less than six innings of work while allowing five runs. Second baseman Robbie Hudson had the best offensive game for the T-Pads going two-for-three with a run batted in. The T-Pads split the series with the Salt Lake City Bees, winning two of four games.

Tuesday the team traveled to the city of lights where they would play four games with the Las Vegas 51’s who are currently in second place in the Pacific Coast League South.

Tuesday was ideal for Tucson’s pitching staff. SP Anthony Bass made his first triple-A start of the season for the T-Pads after being called up from double-A San Antonio. SP Bass threw five innings, allowing one run while striking out three. He was followed by relief pitcher Scott Munter who threw two innings of shut-out baseball and struck out three. RP Colt Hynes then threw a perfect eighth inning setting up RP Scribner, who shut the door, earning his fifth save of the season and SP Bass his first triple-A win.

New acquisition Steve Tolleson started at third base and had three hits and an RBI. 1B Clark belted his eighth homerun of the season, a solo shot in the seventh inning. Six other T-Pads had hits in the game that ended in a 4-1 Tucson victory.

Wednesday saw another outstanding pitching performance from the T-Pads bullpen. SP Matt Buschmann pitched six innings allowing five runs, while striking out five. RP Samuel Deduno threw a perfect seventh inning, followed by RP Greg Burke throwing a perfect eighth inning that set up the dirty duo of RP Luis Perdomo and RP Scribner who combined for a scoreless ninth inning. The bullpen threw three shut-out innings with five strikeouts. RP Scribner got his seventh save and SP Buschmann earned his second win.

The T-Pads offense did their part in the win. Eight different T-Pads had hits in the game producing nine runs on 11 total hits. DH Bobby Kielty had two hits and two RBI after being activated from the disabled list.

Jesus Guzman is now seeing time in left field due to outfielder Aaron Cunningham joining the San Diego Padres and Jarrett Hoffpauir and Tolleson splitting time at third base. LF Guzman had three RBI in the T-Pads 9-5 win.

Thursday saw a pitchers duel between SP Wade LeBlanc and Las Vegas starter Brett Cecil. LeBlanc pitched six innings, allowing one run while striking out five. His opponent was slightly better throwing the whole nine innings, allowing one run.

RP Hynes suffered the loss allowing three runs in the eighth inning. LF Guzman had the only multi-hit game for Tucson that included his sixth homerun of the year in the 1-4 loss.

Friday the T-Pads sent SP Jeremy Hefner to the mound to close out the road trip. SP Hefner pitched six innings of two-run baseball earning his second win of the year.

1B Anthony Rizzo who sat out a couple games with a sore hand returned with three hits, including a homerun and two RBI. 3B Tolleson had a similar day at the plate with three hits, a homerun and one RBI. 2B Hoffpauir had two hits and an RBI.

RP Scribner struck out two in a perfect ninth, giving him his seventh save in the 8-5 win. The T-Pads won three of four games against the Toronto Blue Jays triple-A affiliate with RP Scribner closing out all three wins.

Saturday the club returned home to begin an eight game home-stand. The Tacoma Rainiers are the triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and they sent SP Luke French to the mound to face off against T-Pads SP Inman. SP Inman added eight more strikeouts to his PCL leading total of 72. SP Inman out-dueled French throwing six shut-out innings.

SP Inman did not get the win as RP Munter and RP Deduno combined to allow seven runs in the seventh inning, leaving the score 7-7 going into the seventh inning stretch.

The T-Pads offense responded scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the eighth to get the 12-8 victory. Catcher Nick Hundley had a homerun and three RBI in a rehab assignment.

Right fielder Will Venable had three hits and scored twice. 2B Hoffpauir and LF Guzman both had two hits and two RBI, and RP Scribner saved his eighth game of the season.

Sunday the Rainiers sent crafty knuckleball pitcher Charlie Haeger to the mound to face off against Tucson SP Jon Leicester. SP Leicester had his worst outing of the season, allowing 11 runs in three innings. His tough start allowed Haeger to relax and toss the crooked knuckler for six innings.

The T-Pads were able to score six on Haeger that included a two run homerun from DH Clark in the sixth inning. RF Venable had a homerun and five RBI on Sunday and on a lighter note OF Kielty recorded his first two strikeouts as a T-Pad, allowing one run in one inning of work. Tucson lost game two of the four game series 8-16.

The T-Pads were four and three in week nine moving them out of the PCL South cellar and into third place, 12 games back of first place Sacramento. The T-Pads will play two more with Tacoma before starting another four game home-series with Las Vegas.

Roster Transactions: +Steve Tolleson, listed as an OF appears to be playing 3B.

-OF Aaron Cunningham has been recalled by the San Diego Padres

+OF Bobby Kielty was activated from the disabled list

Rizzo watch: 1B Rizzo is currently sixth in the PCL in average at .365, he is second in homeruns with 16 and first in RBI with 63.

The next home game will be Monday June 6, at 7 pm.
