Tucson_PadresThe Tucson Padres lose their best hitter, first baseman Anthony Rizzo to the big league club and replace him with a familiar face to Padres fans. The closest game of the week saw a score of 6-0 as the T-Pads win three of six in week 10.

The Tucson Padres continued a four game home series with the Tacoma Rainiers on Monday. T-Pads starting pitcher Matt Buschmann had a tough outing, allowing 11 runs (eight earned) in two innings; the bullpen didn’t fare much better, allowing 13 more runs. Catcher Guillermo Quiroz gave up five runs in his first pitching performance of the season, as he was called upon in the ninth inning.

First baseman Jesus Guzman had two hits and two runs batted in. Left fielder Matt Clark and right fielder Will Venable both had two hits in the game. Ultimately it was Tucson’s worst loss of the season, with a football like score of 3-24.

Tuesday SP Wade LeBlanc got the T-Pads back on track as he has time and time again this year. SP LeBlanc out-pitched Tacoma starter NatE. Robertson, who has seen major league time with the Detroit Tigers and Florida Marlins. SP LeBlanc pitched seven innings, allowing one run while striking out seven. Robertson gave up six runs in five innings.

The T-Pads had seven players with multi-hit games on Tuesday, totaling 17 hits in the game. LF Clark had three hits and third baseman Steve Tolleson had three hits and an RBI. The T-Pads were on the winning side of a blow-out Tuesday, giving SP LeBlanc his fifth win of the year. The 9-1 victory gave Tucson a split of the four game series with Tacoma.

Tucson had Wednesday off to prepare for a four game home-stand with the Toronto Blue Jays triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s. Thursday the Las Vegas sent Scott Richmond to the mound to face off against Tucson SP Jeremy Hefner.

The T-Pads got to Richmond early with two runs in the first and one run in the second inning. 1B Kyle Blanks had his first hit and scored his first run of the year with the T-Pads. Short stop Andy Parrino, designated hitter Clark, and 3B Tolleson all had two hits on Thursday. DH Clark ended up with three RBI on the night.

Although the offense was solid the real story Thursday was the T-Pad’s pitching staff. SP Hefner was on point, throwing seven shutout innings with three strikeouts. The bullpen was as impressive with relief pitcher’s Colt Hynes and Samuel Deduno both pitching scoreless innings which led to the T-Pads first shutout of the season. SP Hefner got his third win of the year in the 6-0 victory.

After losing their last four out of five games against Tucson; the Las Vegas 51s appeared fed up on Friday and Saturday. Friday night saw Tucson SP Will Inman take the mound against Las Vegas SP Brad Mills and Saturday night saw Tucson SP Jon Leicester face off with the 51s Reidier Gonzalez. Both Las Vegas throwers did well while both T-Pads pitchers struggled.

Second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir had four hits and the only T-Pad’s RBI while RF Aaron Cunningham had three hits and the only run scored for Tucson in the two games. Friday’s score was 1-10 and Saturday ended 0-10 as Tucson lost both games.

Sunday the T-Pad’s bounced back as SP Buschmann battled the 51s for six innings allowing one run on ten hits. SP Buschmann had six huge strikeouts and recorded his third win of the season.

After two days off the bats came alive as seven different T-Pads had hits. 3B Tolleson had four hits and an RBI; LF Blanks had three hits and an RBI. SS Parrino did all of his damage with one swing, hitting a grand-slam in the seventh inning.

The T-Pads 11-1 win gave them a split in their series with Las Vegas and a split for the week, winning three of six games. The T-Pads are currently 29-35 on the season, in third place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific South division.
