Tucson_PadresMatt Clark continues to hit homeruns, Wade LeBlanc does it all on Saturday and Cedric Hunter ends the week in walk-off fashion as the Tucson Padres win four games in week 12.

Monday the Tucson Padres finished a four game series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Starting pitcher Will Inman pitched six innings while allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts. SP Inman now has 83 strikeouts on the year; the second highest total in the Pacific Coast League.

Opposing starter John Maine did not make it out of the fifth inning, allowing eight earned runs including a solo homerun by first baseman Kyle Blanks and a three run homerun by centerfielder Cedric Hunter.

Third baseman Logan Forsythe was a triple away from the cycle on Monday with four hits including a homerun and four runs batted in. Four different T-Pads had multi-hit games resulting in SP Inman receiving his second win of the year.

Relief pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a perfect ninth inning to earn his ninth save in the 9-6 victory. The T-Pads won their third game in a row, winning the four game series with the Colorado Rockies triple-A affiliate.

Tucson returned home for a four game series with the first place Sacramento River Cats Tuesday. SP Jon Leicester pitched five innings with three strikeouts, while allowing three earned runs. Second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir was three-for-three with a run scored, and catcher Rocky Gale had a hit and two RBI Tuesday. Seven different T-Pads had hits in the ten-inning, 4-3 loss.

Game two of the series saw a pitchers duel featuring Tucson SP Matt Buschmann and Sacramento’s Yadel Marti. SP Buschmann struck out seven batters in six innings, while allowing one run. The opposing Marti pitched seven innings and also allowed one run. 3B Steve Tolleson had a hit and scored the only T-Pads run and 2B Andy Parrino had two hits in two at bats.

The game was tied at one in the ninth inning with RP Perdomo on the mound, when a 2B Parrino error on a hard hit ground ball by right fielder Michael Taylor allowed the go-ahead run. The T-Pads lost late for the second game in a row with a final score Wednesday of 1-2.

SP Pedro Hernandez made his first start of the season for the T-Pads on Thursday. SP Hernandez, who is (5-0) with a 2.70 earned run average at Lake Elsinore this season, pitched six innings and allowed four runs Thursday.

1B Clark, RF Aaron Cunningham and leftfielder Blanks all had a homerun and two RBI on Thursday. RP Greg Burke pitched two innings and earned his first save of the season. SP Hernandez got his first win as a T-Pad in the 9-7 victory.

The final game of the series had Tucson SP Jeremy Hefner facing off with Sacramento pitcher Carlos Hernandez. SP Hefner allowed eight runs in just under three innings, while the opposing Hernandez pitched five innings and allowed three runs, earning the win.

The T-Pads had 15 hits on Friday including 1B Clark hitting his 13th homerun of the year. Going into the ninth inning down eight to three the T-Pads rallied and scored four runs to bring the deficit to one run but that was as close as they would get losing the final game of the series 7-8.

The T-Pads won one of four games with the Sacramento River Cats. The River Cats are currently 50-28 and have the best record in the entire PCL.

Saturday the T-Pads went from facing the best in the league to the worst in the league as they welcomed the last place Fresno Grizzlies to Tucson for a four game series.

SP LeBlanc reminded everyone that he is the ace of the T-Pads pitching staff as he threw eight innings with eight strikeouts and two runs allowed. SP LeBlanc was also the hitting star on Saturday with two hits and three RBI. Eight of nine starters had hits for the T-Pads. Shortstop Everth Cabrera getting three hits including a solo homerun as SP LeBlanc won his sixth game of the season 8-3.

Sunday SP Jon Leicester had his second solid start of the week allowing two runs in five innings with four strikeouts. This game got wild late as the Grizzlies scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a nine to seven lead.

The offensive star of the night, RF Cunningham hit a two-run homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at nine. Pinch hitter Forsythe walked and was able to score on a walk off double by CF Hunter.

RF Cunningham was a triple shy of the cycle Sunday and is now hitting .303 with seven homeruns and 53 RBI on the season. RP Colt Hynes was credited with his second win of the season in the 10-9 thriller.

Sunday’s walk-off win gave the T-Pads a winning week at 4-3 and moves their season record to 36-42. The T-Pads are currently in third place in the PCL South, 14 games back of first place Sacramento.

Instead of weekly roster transactions this is roughly the current T-Pads fielding situation. Kyle Blanks and Matt Clark tend to rotate equally between first base and left field.

Everth Cabrera is the primary shortstop while Steve Tolleson spends most of his time at third base but can also play second base. Jarrett Hoffpauir tends to see most of his time at second base but also takes reps at third base.

Manager Terry Kennedy has the luxury of having two men that can play shortstop, third base and second base very well in the forms of Logan Forsythe and Andy Parrino.

Cedric Hunter sees the bulk of the time in center field with Aaron Cunningham as the consistent right fielder. Eric Patterson backs up at all outfield positions.

Guillermo Quiroz and Eddy Rodriguez are currently rotating at catcher, and Luis Perdomo is the current closer for the T-Pads. Perdomo’s nine save are fifth best in the PCL.

Next game is Monday June 27, 2011; game three of four with Fresno.
