Tucson_PadresFirst baseman Anthony Rizzo hit three more homeruns in week five proving his month of April was no fluke. The Tucson Padres added infielder Alex Cintron to the roster as Shortstop Everth Cabrera goes on the disabled list.

The Tucson Padres were on the road all week, starting with a four game series against the Tacoma Rainers. The Rainers are the triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, this gave Manager Terry Kennedy a designated hitter spot in the order.

Game one saw Tucson starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner face off against the Rainer’s SP Fabio Castro. Neither pitcher faired well, SP Hefner allowed nine runs in two innings (five earned), and struck out four. Tacoma’s SP Castro lasted just over four innings giving up five runs.

Catcher Guillermo Quiroz had two hits and three runs batted in for the T-Pads. 1B Matt Clark had two hits including his first homerun of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning. The early deficit was too much for Tucson to overcome losing game one 6-12.

SP Will Inman got the T-Pads back on track Tuesday, pitching five strong innings and allowing only two runs. Inman earned his first win of the season while striking out five.

Newly acquired SS Alex Cintron went 2-for-4 in his first game on the field for Tucson. 1B Rizzo provided most of the offense with a 3-for-4 night that included a three-run homerun. Relief pitcher Pat Neshek picked up his second save of the year in the 5-4 victory.

Game three was a thriller; the T-Pads scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning with two-run homeruns from both 1B Rizzo and DH Clark to take a 6-5 lead. The lead was short-lived for Tucson as RP Luis Perdomo could not close the door and the T-Pads lost 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

SP Jon Leicester allowed four runs (3 earned) and struck out two in just over four innings. 1B Rizzo was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the loss.

On Cinco de Mayo SP Simon Castro took the mound. SP Castro continues to struggle as he did not get out of the first inning. Castro gave up four runs while striking out his only two recorded outs. Manager Kennedy was forced to use six pitchers on the night.

Jesus Guzman thrived in the DH roll on Thursday, going 2-for-5 with a solo homerun in the second inning. SS Cintron went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the 4-8 loss. The T-Pads won one of four games in their series with the Tacoma.

Friday the T-Pads were in Fresno to begin four game road-stand with the San Francisco Giant’s triple-A affiliate. SP Wade LeBlanc battled Fresno SP Doug Mathis in a pitching duel.

SP LeBlanc gave Tucson’s bullpen some rest, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings pitched. LeBlanc walked four and struck out seven in his second win of the season. SP LeBlanc also had two hits on the night and his batting average is currently .625.

All of the T-Pads offense came on a bases-clearing double by center fielder Cedric Hunter in the seventh inning. RP Perdomo closed the door, earning his fourth save in the 3-2 T-Pads victory.

SP Hefner was on the bump Saturday facing off against the Pacific Coast League’s co-leader in wins, SP Andrew Kown. Fresno’s SP Kown fanned nine T-Pads and gave up two runs, one coming on 1B Rizzo’s tenth homerun of the season. Hefner pitched six innings giving up six runs (four earned) while striking out six Fresno Grizzlies.

CF Hunter and 3B Guzman both had two hits in the Tucson’s 3-7 loss. Manager Kennedy got through the game using just two pitchers for the first time all week.

SP Inman got the Mothers day start for the T-Pads and he continued to throw well. SP Inman gave up three runs in four innings while striking out six hitters. SP Inman is now tied for second in the PCL in strikeouts with 38.

C Quiroz was 2-for-4 with two RBI on Sunday, raising his season AVG to .301. The T-Pads lost game three of the series with Fresno 3-4, the last game of the series and road trip is Monday.

Roster transactions:

-2B Logan Forsythe has been called up to the San Diego Padres due to 2B Orlando Hudson pulling a hamstring. This will be Forsythe’s major league debut.

-SS Cabrera was placed on the seven day DL with a fractured hamate bone. SS Cabrera suffered the hand injury in last Sunday’s win over Colorado Springs.

-INF Cintron was added to the roster. The 32-year old Cintron has 680 games of big league experience including 33 homeruns and 222 RBI.

-INF Pat McKenna was transferred to double-A San Antonio, McKenna was hitting .176 in nine games with Tucson.

-INF Anthony Contreras was transferred from double-A San Antonio to the Tucson. Last year Contreras hit .273 with four homeruns for triple-A Portland.
