The Tucson Padres started week six on the road finishing up a four-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies. T-Pads starting pitcher Jon Leicester continued his solid season, allowing only three hits and zero runs in seven innings while striking out three. Center fielder Cedric Hunter hit his first homerun of the year, but offense was rare in this game as Tucson would lose their tenth one-run game of the season 2-3. The T-Pads lost the series with Fresno, winning one of three games. Coming off f a “terrible” road trip as described by Manager Terry Kennedy, the Tucson Padres were glad to be home on Tuesday night. Tuesday was game one of four with the Round Rock Express. Left-handed SP Rob Musgrave was transferred to Tucson from double-A San Antonio for the second time this year, and threw four strong innings allowing two runs, one of which came on a Taylor Teagarden home run. The Express had prospect Neil Ramirez on the bump. Ramirez gave up five runs and didn’t make it out of the fourth inning when 3B Guzman delivered a big hit. SP Ramirez was relieved by RP Beau Jones, who filled the bases by walking RF Aaron Cunningham. Next runs batted in, in the 11-8 win. 3B Guzman had three RBI and first baseman Clark had two hiotter 3B Guzman hit a grand-slam just over the right field wall or at least that is what the players in the dug-out and the 1,663 in attendance saw. The first base umpire did not see it that way as the official ruling was a ground-rule double. Six different T-Pads had RBI. RP Pat Neshek was credited with the win. SP Wade LeBlanc started game two against the Texas Rangers triple-A affiliate. SP LeBlanc pitched seven innings allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out seven. Designated hitter Luis Martinez had three hits and an RBI on Wednesday and 3B Guzman continued his production with three more RBI. In the end the T-Pads did not have enough offense, resulting in a 5-7 loss. 1B Rizzo returned to the line-up Thursday with two hits and a run scored. The T-Pads offensive star of this game was the DH Clark. DH Clark, whose Father happens to be Round Rock pitching coach Terry Clark, had three RBI on two homeruns. 1B Anthony Rizzo sat out Tuesday and Wednesday this week with a sore hand.
