One Mission

Those of you that have followed the website and the radio show this season know that I don't hide my love for the San Antonio Missions.  The team practically split coverage with the Padres at time, but could you blame me? To be fair, I enjoy working with all of the minor league affiliated, but because of my relationships with these young guys on the team, I had a vested interest in this Missions team.

Just look at the names that are on the current Padres roster that spent time with the Missions this season, Kyle Blanks, Nick Hundley, Andy Parrino, James Darnell, Anthony Bass, Brad Brach, Josh Spence, and Erik Hamren.  You can see it's no wonder why I spent the amount of time and energy that I did on this team.  Couple that with manager Doug Dascenzo and a great front office and you start to understand why I love these guys.  This may be a AA team, but they do some great things in terms of entertainment value, don't believe me?  Check out this video they made for the playoffs...

Don't think for a second because of all the talent on the major league roster the Missions are void of talent.  They still have Jed's nuggets Casey Kelly, Robbie Erlin, and Joe Wieland.  Jaff Decker, Cody Decker, Blake Tekotte, Sawyer Carroll, Vince Belnome, Daniel Robertson, Simon Castro, Jorge Reyes, Juan Oramas, Nick Vincent, and Miles Mikolas.  If that was not enough Jason Hagerty and Jedd Gyorko joined the team after the all star break.

You may be wondering... what's your point?  For all the people that wondered why I went to spring training and spent four days watching minor league games or spent time covering the minor league teams on the radio show... this is why.  As a Padres fan, this is your present and your future.  Below is the highlight video from the game Tuesday night as they came back from a 4-1 deficient to win in walk off fashion, taking a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.
