San Antonio – Left-handed pitcher Rob Musgrave has been sent to the Triple-A Tucson Padres where he will make a start tonight against the Round Rock Express.
Musgrave has appeared in five games (two starts) for San Antonio and was 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA. He allowed 12 hits, seven runs (six earned), while walking eight and striking out 16 in 16.1 innings. This will be Musgrave’s second start for the Triple-A club. He started at Fresno on April 22, where he went 5.0 innings and gave up six hits, five runs (earned) with two walks and one strike out.
Catcher Jhonaldo Pozo has been sent to extended spring training. Pozo joined the Missions on May 6 and appeared in one game. He started yesterday versus Corpus Christi and went 1-3 with two strikeouts.
Taking Pozo’s spot on the roster will be catcher Eddy Rodriguez from the Class A Lake Elsinore Storm. Rodriguez, a 25-year old native of Miami, FL, was hitting .250 (4-for-16) with four runs scored, two home runs and four RBI in four games for Lake Elsinore.
Rodriguez was signed by San Diego on February 17, 2011 and reported to the Padres spring training camp in Peoria, AZ. He spent the 2010 campaign with the Independent Sioux Falls Pheasants of the American Association.
Rodriguez was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 20th round of the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami (FL). Rodriguez was a college teammate of current San Antonio outfielder Blake Tekotte.
