San Antonio – Right-handed pitcher Matt Buschmann has been promoted to the Triple-A Tucson Padres and will join the team today in Tucson.

Buschmann was 5-1 with a 4.15 ERA in seven games (six starts) for San Antonio. In 34.2 innings pitched he allowed 31 hits, 17 runs (16 earned) with 13 walks and 25 strikeouts. His five wins were tied for the second-most in the league. This will be Buschmann’s third stint at Triple-A; he made 19 appearances (18 starts) for Portland in 2009 and eight appearances (four starts) for Portland in 2010.

Right-handed pitcher Erik Hamren has been called up from the Class-A Lake Elsinore Storm to take Buschmann’s spot on the roster. In 15 relief appearances for Lake Elsinore, Hamren was 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA and one save. He allowed 12 hits, two runs (earned), walked two and struck out 21 in 16.2 innings.

Hamren, a 24-year old native of Coto de Caza, CA, was signed as a Minor League free agent by San Diego on October 20, 2010. He was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft out of Saddleback Community College (CA).

Hamren will join the Missions today in Midland. San Antonio (23-10) is on the second day of an eight-game road trip and will return home Friday, May 20 for a four-game home stand against the Frisco RoughRiders (Texas Rangers).

The Missions have the best record in the Texas League and currently lead second place Frisco by seven games.
