San Antonio – Left-handed pitcher Juan Oramas has been sent to San Antonio from extended spring training and will join the Missions today.
Oramas, was signed as a non-drafted free agent on November 26, 2006 and had been in Peoria, AZ as he recovered from a left trap strain.
The 21-year old native of Villa Hermosa, Mexico, enters the 2011 season as San Diego’s 17th rated prospect according to Baseball America.
Oramas has appeared in 64 career minor league games (31 starts) and is 12-9 with a 2.57 ERA with 248 strikeouts in 206.1 innings pitched. He pitched in the Mexican League in 2009 and was 9-1 with a 2.31 ERA in 25 games (14 starts) and allowed 72 hits, 23 earned runs, 44 walks while striking out 89 in 89.2 innings.
To make room for Oramas on the roster, infielder Patrick McKenna has been sent to extended spring training.
