Future of Padres AAA Team is Near 

El Paso is ready for a Triple-A team.   In June the City Council approved a deal to build a $50 million stadium in downtown El Paso. The deal calls for the demolishing of City Hall and will make room for a stadium that could be ready as soon as 2014.  For those of you that follow minor league baseball, you may recall the El Paso Diablos, a AA team that was the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate through 2004.  At the conclusion of the season the franchise signed a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals and moved to (queue the Simpsons theme song) Springfield, Missouri.

The MountainStar Sports Group is an El Paso based group that has been very aggressive in pursuing a AAA team to occupy the city. On July 30th, El Paso cleared a large hurdle and was approved by the Pacific Coast League:
