Padres Call Up Jace Peterson
The Padres are calling up top prospect Jace Peterson from Double-A San Antonio.
Peterson had been swinging the bat very well for the Missions; he was hitting .311 with 1 home run and 7 RBI’s over 74 AB’s. What could be more impressive is that he walked just as much as he struck out – he both walked and struck out 9 times. That is not unique to this year, however. Over his minor league career Peterson walked 175 times and struck out just 183 times. Peterson never had an OBP lower than .360 in the minor leagues.
Peterson also has plus speed; he’s stolen 136 bases over 3+ years in the minors and he has been caught 36 times making him successful about 80% of the time. He knows how to get on base, and once he’s on the basepaths he’s always a threat to steal.
Peterson’s primary position is shortstop, but prior to his call up the Missions gave Peterson some playing time at third base which is likely where he’ll play in the big leagues.
Peterson is rated as the Padres’ 7th best prospect by Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com.
Congrats to Jace Peterson!
