Padres Game Day Chat 9.11.10 

FOR STARTERS: Tim Stauffer takes the hill tonight, making his third start of the season (28th appearance overall)…it is his first regularly schedule start, after making two emergency starts previously this season…Stauffer has not factored in a decision as a starter this year, despite allowing just one run over his 9.0 innings of work…San Diego is 1-1 in his two starts.

ON TOP: The Padres find themselves tied atop the National League West standings with a 79-61 record, percentage points ahead of the Giants…it is the fourth time in franchise history that the club has been in first place through games of 9/10 (1984, 1998, 2005)…with a 38-30 record away from home, San Diego is posting the best road record in the NL…at 41-31, the Padres are also posting a .569 winning percentage at home…the Padres are currently 18 games over .500…they reached a season-high 27 games above .500 on 8/25…the only other San Diego team to reach 27 games over .500 at any point of the season was the National League champion 1998 club.

EN FUEGO: Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 last night after snapping his season-high-tying hitting streak at 11 games the night before…he has hit safely in 28 of his last 33 games dating back to 8/6…the slugger is batting .365 (46-for-126) with nine doubles, six home runs, 22 RBI and 19 runs scored, posting a .438 on-base percentage and a .579 slugging percentage over that stretch (1.017 OPS).

IN THE NICK OF TIME: Nick Hundley has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, going 13-for-34 (.382) with five doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored over that stretch…he is slugging .706 during those 11 games.

BULLYING PEN: Over the last five games, Padres reliever have combined to allow two runs over 17.0 innings of work (1.06 ERA)…the nine relievers used in the last four tilts have recorded 19 strikeouts, averaging over 1.0 K/IP.
