WILLING AND ABLE: Dating back to 9/8, Will Venable has hit safely in 10 of his 13 games with an at-bat, including five multi-hit games in his last six tilts…over the 13-game stretch, he has seven multi-hit games total and is hitting .488 (20-for-41) with a .523 on-base percentage and .683 slugging percentage (1.206 OPS)…he has lifted his season average from .219 (on 9/7) to .249 during that span.
CY RETURNS: Chris Young takes the hill tonight, making his third start of the season and second since returning from the disabled list…it is his first start at PETCO Park in 2010 and first at home since 6/3/09 vs. PHI…last season, Young went 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA (11 ER/38.0 IP) at home and is 16-11 with a 2.93 ERA (83 ER/255.1 IP) in 43 career starts at PETCO Park.
HOME, SWEET HOME: Padres pitchers have posted a National League-leading 2.90 ERA (221 ER/685.0 IP) at home this season…that mark would rank as the fifth-best in franchise history, the lowest mark ever at PETCO Park and the best home ERA for the Padres since the 1998 club posted a 2.78 (232 ER/751.0 IP) ERA.
