Padres Game Day Chat 9.27.10

THE HOME STRETCH: The Padres continue a seven-game homestand tonight with the first of four against the Chicago Cubs…following the four-game set, the club will finish the regular season with a three-game series in San Francisco (10/1-3) against the National League West-leading Giants…the Padres have a combined 14-5 record against their remaining opponents, having gone 10-5 against the Giants this season and sweeping a four-game set in Chicago in August.

LAST TIME OUT: The Padres missed a chance at their 10th sweep of the season, losing 12-2 to the Reds yesterday afternoon…the Padres scored twice on two solo home runs in the second inning (Gonzalez and Torrealba)…Clayton Richard was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs over 5.0 innings…Padres relievers combined to allow six more runs (five earned) over the final 4.0 frames.

BREAKDOWN: With seven games to go, the Padres find themselves 0.5 game back in the National League West standings and 0.5 game ahead in the National League Wild Card standings…with the Giants off today, the Padres will have the same number of games played as their division rival following tonight
