Padres Game Day Chat 9.3.10 

WILD, WEST SHOWDOWN: The Padres begin a 10-game homestand with the first of three against Colorado tonight…following the weekend set, the club will host the Dodgers for three (9/6-8) and the Giants for four (9/9-12) before hitting the road again…San Diego is in the midst of a stretch in which they play 16 straight games, 19 of 23 and 22 of their final 33 on the season against NL West opponents…so far this year San Diego is 28-25 (.528) against divisional foes…the Padres are 10-8 vs. the Diamondbacks, 4-8 vs. the Rockies, 5-7 vs. the Dodgers and 9-2 vs. the Giants.

LAUNCHING THE LEFTY: Cory Luebke (pronounced LUBE-key) takes the hill tonight, making his Major League debut…the 25-year-old is the second Padre to make his Major League debut in 2010 (Lance Zawadzki) and the first rookie pitcher to start a game for San Diego this season (Frieri, Webb, Ramos have all pitched in relief)…a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training this year, Luebke has combined to go 10-1 with a 2.68 ERA (34 ER/114.0 IP) in 19 games (17 starts) between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland this year…he has recorded 88 strikeouts compared to 29 walks, while posting a .982 WHIP….originally signed as a supplemental-round selection (63rd overall) in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Ohio State University, Luebke has gone 32-17 with a 3.49 ERA (167 ER/430.2 IP) in 84 career minor league games (74 starts).

SNAP OUT OF IT: The Padres are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak after having previously not lost more than three in a row this season…the last time the Padres lost seven straight was 7/5-11/09…the last time the club had a losing streak of more than seven games was 6/21-29/08, when they lost eight straight during a stretch of Interleague Play.
