Good, Bad, and Ugly 4/18 vs. Rockies

good bad and ugly
Headley shows muscle, but can’t carry the Padres to Victory.  Rockies win 8-4
WP: Juan Nicasio (1-0)
LP: Clayton Richard (1-1)
Homeruns – SD: Headley 2 (4) COL: Herrera (1), Cuddyer (2)

The Good:

Chase Headley

  • 3-4 2 homeruns, 3 RBI.  Headley has 13 hits in his last 10 games and was 9-23 (.391 avg) on the road trip.  Note: Headley has not struck out in the last four games.

Nick Hundley

  • 2-4 run scored.  Hundley broke out of his slump on Sunday and is now 7-15 (.467 avg.) over the last four games.

Will Venable

  • 2-4 double and a run scored.  His line on the season .286/.359/.457

The Bad:

Jesus Guzman

  • 0-3 K.  On the season Jesus is 4-25 (.160 avg) vs RHP.  Guzman reminds me of when Scott Hairston returned to San Diego, but couldn’t get the magic back.  When will the Legend return?

    The Ugly:

    Clayton Richard

  • 5.1 IP, 10H, 8ER, 2K, 2BB.  Of the 27 batters faced, only 14 started off with a strike.  During spring training, I mentioned starting Richard in the bullpen until he was able to get things back on track.  I was a little shocked at how many people attacked me and called me crazy.  My comment may not look so crazy now.  Given the state of the rotation, I don’t think you pull out Richard at the moment, but when Stauffer is ready to return if Wieland can put together a few good starts and Richard continues to struggle, it’s a no brainer.  Let’s just hope Richard can get it going.
