Josh Barfield signed a minor league deal with no spring training invite

The Padres traded second baseman Josh Barfield to Cleveland for infielder now also ex Padre Kevin Kouzmanoff and right-handed reliever Andrew Brown. At the time, A highly criticized trade, while Josh, a Padre product having a impressive rookie year for a some what "unknown" prospect Kevin Kouzmanoff. Another Kevin Towers "gem" of a trade selling high on Barfield's rookie campaign on another young prospect in a position where the Padres were week, third base. Now, Kouzmnaoff, another mixed "emotion" trade, bringing back Scott Hairston and another highly touted prospects Aaron Cunningham( #55th top prospect in all of baseball last year)

Barfield, who was the Padres everyday second baseman in 2006, will report to Spring Training on March 12.

Barfield wasn't offered a Spring Training invite to Major League camp.

Barfield, 27, was selected by the Padres in the fourth round of the 2001 Draft and hit an impressive .280 with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs in 150 games in 2006. seeming to thrive in Petco. park and became some what of a new fan favorite.

Barfield in 2007 season as the Indians starting second baseman but slummed mightily at the plate, hitting .243 with three home runs and 50 RBIs. He only had 53 at-bats with the Indians in 2008-09.

Its a depth move, again, Josh has no guarantees, but its nice to see him back in San Diego if anyone should go down. I always liked Josh, he seemed to thrive in Petco as well.
