Mat Latos was named the #5 starter today. He was lights out this spring and it's hard to argue with the decision. As rumors floated around earlier in the week about Joe Thatcher being moved to the DL the reality of the Padres keeping Latos, Sean Gallagher and Tim Stauffer on the roster appeared to be in the works. Corey Brock had mentioned that exact scenario on his blog Sunday.
The Padres now go into opening day with a stable of pitchers that when healthy will be very formidable. While also having reserves such as Tim Stauffer, Sean Gallagher and Wade LeBlanc (Portland) just a spot start away from joining the rotation. This depth of arms has not been seen in the Padres organization in quite some time and the fans should be excited! Go Padres
