2010_Caribbean_SeriesThe Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican and Venezuelan winter leagues are in the playoffs for their respective leagues during January.  Their regular season finished at the end of December with the playoffs finishing later this week to beginning of next week and the Caribbean Series beginning Feb. 2. The Australian league season ends Jan 22 with playoffs beginning Jan 27.

Some notable stats for the Padres players involved in winter league play included:

SS Everth Cabrera ended with 22 games played in the Mexican league with 83 AB for a .301/.404/.410 line.

SS Jesus Lopez finished .261/.318/.394 in 65 games and 218 AB. He had 33 RBI and 3 SB.

New Padre C Guillermo Quiroz played in the Venezuelan league for 45 games and 147 AB for a .224/.287/.291 line with 16 RBI. He is known as a light hitting, good defense catcher.

Oscar Salazar,  who is still on the 40 man roster as an outfielder, had a busy winter season with 44 games and171 AB with 7 2B, 3 HR, 25 RBI and a .281/.333/.274 line.

3B Jesus Guzman, who signed with the Padres as a free agent in January, is still playing in the playoffs and is the RBI leader in the Venezuelan league with 52. His season line of .306/.357/.429 in 62 games, 252 AB with 11 2B, 1 3B, 6 HR, and 5 SB for Caracas was 6th on his team. His recent 2 HR in a playoff game kept his team in close competition for the playoffs.

Pitcher Matt Buschman has had a great winter season and is also in the playoffs. He stands at 7-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 games and 83.1 IP. He has 28 BB to 61 SO and is ranked 3rd in ERA and 1st in IP for his team (the rotation also includes Oliver Perez, who Matt has outpitched).

Lefty Juan Oramas finished his season 2-2 with a 4.95 ERA and recently received a spring training invite from the Padres. In 11 games and 43.2 IP he had 29 BB to 47 SO.

Reliever Mauricio Tabachnik went 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 18 games and 23 IP with 11 BB and 14 SO.

In Australia, Michael Collins and Hayden Beard continue playing for a few more games. Beard came to the league late and has pitched in 5 games with a 1.29 ERA and 2 saves in 7 IP. He has 3 BB and 9 SO.

There will be one more winter league update at the conclusion of the  Caribbean Series and the Australian league playoffs.
